Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó officially opened the Hungarian Embassy in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, on Tuesday, according to the Hungarian news agency MTI, the Budapest Business Journal reported.
“Hungarian enterprises have excellent export opportunities in the Uzbekistani economy, which is producing an enviable level of economic growth even in Asian comparison, namely within the fields of the food industry and animal husbandry technologies, the pharmaceutical industry and water management technologies,” said Szijjártó in a statement to MTI following negotiations in Tashkent, as quoted by official government website kormany.hu.
Mr Szijjártó said that Hungary becomes the 11th European Union member state with an embassy in the Uzbek capital. The other three Visegrád Group (V4) countries – the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia – already have embassies in the city, he added.
He met with Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov and several ministers in the government during his visit. After the meetings, he noted opportunities for Hungarian companies to export cattle, as well as cattle and poultry farming technology, to Uzbekistan. Hungarian water management companies could also contribute to Uzbekistanʼs economic stability, he added.
The foreign minister said the Uzbek government welcomes the further expansion of Hungarian drugmaker Richter in the country. Richter has several hundred medicines registered in Uzbekistan and is undertaking drug trials at more than 30 local clinics, he added.
Mr Szijjártó also told reporters that Hungary has offered 30 scholarship places for Uzbek students to attend Hungarian universities. The related agreement is currently being drawn up and will be signed in New York on the sidelines of the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly.
As reported earlier, the main purpose of Peter Szijjártóʼs ongoing tour of Central Asia is to suitably prepare Hungary for its upcoming presidency of the V4 Group, which begins on July 1, in view of the fact that the most important task of the Hungarian presidency will be to enable the V4 to significantly develop relations between Central Europe and Central Asia, according to kormany.hu.

The island of Bali might be getting a flight from Uzbekistan’s capital city Tashkent after a meeting between Indonesian Tourism Minister Arief Yahya and Sharapov Anvar Kurbanovich, chairman of the Uzbek Tourism Development Committee, the coconuts.co website reported.
Mr Kurbanovich’s visit to Indonesia comes after a visit to Malaysia.
Uzbekistan plans to grant Indonesian citizens visa-free entry and a direct flight from Tashkent will hopefully be opened up, the chairman added.
Another feature Kurbanovich hopes to develop to draw Indonesians over is an Umrah plus package that would include a trip to Uzbekistan for those making the holy Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi-Arabia.

The capital city of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, will host the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in 2017, the Insidethegames.biz website can report.
Action will take place from September 15 to 24 next year.
The Olympic Complex, located on the historical Silk Road, represents the coming together of the new and the old in Turkmenistan and is one of the most “state-of-the-art facilities in the world”.
The Athletes’ Village, which will host 5,000 athletes from 62 countries across Asia and Oceania, is also finished and the new airport is said to be three months away from completion.
All 45 Asian National Olympic Committees as well 17 from Oceania are due to take part in the games.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE), a major work destination in the Gulf for Nepalese migrant workers, will open an embassy in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu on May 10, the Review Nepal News website can report,
Though the exact location of the embassy is not fixed yet, it is said that the embassy will initially operate its mission from a rented house in Lazimpat area.
UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan will visit Kathmandu to inaugurate the embassy, according to Nepal’s foreign ministry.
About 200,000 Nepali migrant workers are now in UAE, and the opening of the embassy in Kathmandu will ease visa and consular services for Nepalese.

Kazakhstani government officials and tourist companies recently discussed prospects of the tourism industry development in Kazakhstan at a meeting in Almaty, the country’s largest city and former capital, the The Times of Central Asia reported.
The meeting participants said a new impulse in this direction will be given by the international specialized exhibition EXPO-2017 “Energy of the Future”.
This significant world-class event will be held for the first time in Central Asia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), in Kazakhstan’s capital city Astana between 10 June and 10 September 2017.
For Astana and the whole of Kazakhstan it will be the first and foremost opportunity to showcase the Kazakh state, its culture, history, traditions and modern achievements.
“Astana will turn into the biggest stage area of the world, and the EXPO will be the new direction of tourism and entertainment,” said Rosa Asanbaeva, adviser to the chairman of the board of JSC “Astana EXPO-2017.
It is expected that more than 5 million people will attend the event, including 85% Kazakhstanis and 15% foreign visitors.
The director of the regional Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Almaty, Yuri Tleumuratov, spoke about the tourism potential of Almaty and development of a roadmap for tourism in Almaty.
According to the roadmap, it is planned to develop a tourist navigation system for the city, launch a shuttle service from the airport to the city center, and build an ethnic village at Boraldai mounds.
Among the objectives on the national scale, it is planned to expand the list of visa-free countries, lower the prices for domestic flights, and improve beach areas at Kazakhstan’s water reservoirs and organize public toilets.
According to experts, all these measures will bring tangible results in two or three years.

På ettårsdagen for jordskjelvet i Nepal, der hovedstaden Katmandu ble kraftig rammet, har gjenoppbyggingen knapt startet, skriver NRK.
