British Embassy, Budapest.

The new British Embassy in Budapest has been officially inaugurated. Sir Alan Duncan, the UK  Minister for Europe, and the  Hungarian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó together unveiled a plaque on the building marking the occassion, the Budapest Business Journal reported.

The British Embassy in Budapest relocated in April after purchasing its new home – previously the Dutch Embassy – in District II. The building has been completely renovated to provide the British Embassy and its staff a modern and fit for purpose working environment, according to a press release sent to Budapest Business Journal.

“While the UK’s relationship with Europe is changing, we are not turning our back on the European Union, and we are certainly not turning our back on Hungary,” Sir Alan said.

“The British Embassy has moved from a building we leased to one we have renovated and own. This is a visible demonstration that we are strengthening our roots here. Not only that, we are also increasing our embassy staff by around 20% –  a significant uplift in resource and capability, which will better enable us to continue driving the relationship forward and seize new opportunities together.”

Following the opening ceremony, the British minister gave a speech at Corvinus University on the strengthening bilateral relationship between the United Kingdom and Hungary.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will open an embassy in Budapest, capital city of Hungary, next year, an important step in further strengthening bilateral relations, UAE’s foreign minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan said in Budapest, after talks with his Hungarian counterpart, Péter Szijjártó, hungarytoday.hu reported.

The governments of the UAE and Hungary hope to conclude several agreements this year, two foreign ministers said on a joint press conference.

As a leading country in the Arab Gulf, the United Arab Emirates plays a key role in ensuring stability in the region, Mr Szijjártó said. He said that cooperation with that country is of vital importance now that NATO faces challenges from that direction.

Speaking about bilateral economic ties, the Hungarian Foreign Minister identified cooperation prospects primarily in water management and energy including training nuclear experts for the UAE.

Péter Szijjártó said that the UAE’s airline, Emirates, plans to operate its second largest customer service centre in Budapest soon.
