Amsterdam, capial of the Netherlands, continues to top a ranking of the best 50 Dutch cities to live in but Utrecht is closing the gap, researchers who produce the Atlas voor Gemeenten says, according to dutchnews.nl

The last issue was published 10 years ago but the top three – Amsterdam, Utrecht and Amstelveen, remain the same.

The ranking is based on 50 separate issues, ranging from education to parks, public safety and cultural amenities. 

“Amsterdam owes its leading position to its historic inner city, its location, jobs market and its facilities”, researcher Gerard Marlet told broadcaster Nos.

“It has everything a city should have. However, public safety issues and growing inequality could have an impact on Amsterdam’s lead”, Marlet said.

In addition, tourism is beginning to affect people’s perception of the city and this could also cost Amsterdam in the future.

Dordrecht, up from 30 to 14, is the biggest riser in the ranking, while Hilversum, Delft and Oss are among the biggest losers.

Bottom of the list is Emmen in Drenthe, which is just below Sittard-Geleen and Spijkenisse.

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and United Arab Emirates (UAE) Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Monday inaugurated the UAE embassy in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, the Cyprus Mail reported.

“The opening of the embassy signals a new chapter in our relations, one that will certainly facilitate the expansion of the cooperation and interaction between our governments, our institutions and our societies,” president Anastasiades said.

“Commercial and trade ties have also expanded. It is worth noting that the well-known UAE company DP World Ltd was awarded two concession agreements for Limassol port, following a transparent international tender. I trust that this is only the beginning of a mutually beneficial relationship,” he said.

Sheikh Abdullah, held a private meeting with Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides earlier in the day. Following the meeting, he expressed the willingness of the UAE to share with Cyprus their experience on the natural gas and renewable energy resources sectors but also in encouraging some of its companies to look at the opportunities in Cyprus.

“There are huge potentials here in Cyprus in areas of solar, wind, geothermic energy, as well as in gas discoveries,” the minister said.

The two countries, Sheikh Abdullah said, are working closely in examining the potentials of the renewable energy resources.
Kassoulides said that they discussed the relations between the EU and the Gulf Cooperation Council, in light of the EU-GCC Ministerial Meeting that will take place next week in Brussels, which both ministers will be attending.

“A range of issues was discussed today, focusing on regional and international developments and terrorism,” he said.

Noen av rutene kan starte opp allerede denne høsten, ifølge det amerikanske transportdepartementet, og blir de første til Cuba på snart 50 år.

Totalt har selskapene fått tillatelse til å fly 14 daglige ruter til Havanna..

Tidligere i år fikk seks andre flyselskaper tillatelse til å fly på ni andre kubanske byer.

At Havanna er på etterskudd skyldes den enorme etterspørselen, skriver Travelnews.

Alaska Airlines skal fly fra Los Angeles, American Airlines har ruter fra Miami, Florida, og fra Charlotte i Nord-Carolina.

Delta Airlines har en rute fra Atlanta, Georgia, fra New York (JFK), og fra Miami. Frontier Airlines skal fly fra Miami, JetBlue får ruter fra Fort Lauderdale, Florida, fra New York (JFK), og fra Orlando, Florida.

Southwest Airlines skal fly fra Fort Lauderdale og fra Tampa, Florida, mens Spirit Airlines skal ha en rute fra Fort Lauderdale.

United Airlines skal fly på Havanna fra New York (Newark).

Kinas eneste museum om massakren på Tianmen Square -Den himmelske freds plass, i hovedstaden Beijing 4.juni 1989, blir stengt på grunn av en rettssak mellom museumsledelsen og eierne av bygningen, skriver NRK.

Ifølge nyhetsbyrået Reuters blir museet – June 4h Museum (bildet), som ligger i Hongkong, midlertidig stengt.

Museet åpnet i april 2014.

Den tidligere britiske kolonien Hongkong er en autonom region – Special Administrative Region, i folkerepublikken Kina, det samme gjelder Macau, som er en tidligere portugisisk koloni. 

Hongkong ble tilbakeført til Kina i 1997, etter å ha vært under britisk kontroll siden 1841. Macau ble tilbakeført til Kina i 1999, etter å ha vært styrt av Portugal siden 1557.

The total cost of the project will reach US$1.82 billion. The project has required the construction of six tunnels and eight bridges

Service frequency will be four trains per hour in each direction. Trains will make an intermediary stop at Ben-Gurion International Airport. The maximum speed on the new line will be 160 kilometers (99 miles) per hour.

It currently takes around an hour and 15 minutes to travel between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem by train on the old line built during the Ottoman era in the 1890’s.

The current station in Jerusalem is inconveniently located in the Malha neighborhood, on the southwestern outskirts of Jerusalem.

Det er det nettbaserte reisebyrået Expedia.no som har undersøkt reisevanene knyttet til mat og restaurantbesøk blant europeerne, ved å spørre 14 000 respondenter i 14 land. Den viser for øvrig at vi tror italienerne er dårligst på å gi driks (17 prosent). Her scorer imidlertid vi nordmenn høyt (tre prosent) – i gjennomsnitt.

Samtidig er Italia ifølge de spurte det landet i Europa som gir best restaurantservice, sammen med Frankrike. Sverige havner langt nede på listen med to prosent, mens Norge havner omtrent nederst, med én prosent, skriver Travelnews.
