For travellers ready to embark on new adventures, travel search engine website kayak.sg has put together a list of six lesser-known capital cities along with the best month to visit them in 2016. Going ‘hipster’ might be the best resolution for the new year, travel.asiaone.com reported.

Zagreb, Capital of Croatia, is number 1 on the list:

Pay a visit to the Medvedgrad Fortress, which sits high above the city at the peak of Medvednica Mountain. From this vantage point, take in views over the picturesque city and surrounding countryside. Just remember to bring along your cameras. History geeks and art lovers will feel right at home at the Muzej Mimara. It houses an extensive and impressive collection of masterpieces dating from the prehistoric to the present.

1.Zagreb, Croatia

2.Vientiane, Laos

3.Ottawa, Canada

4.Tbilisi, Georgia

5.Canberra, Australia

6.Brasilia, Brazil

Blant de nye serveringsstedene finner vi Joe & The Juice, Bølgen & Moi Food Garage, Wagamama, Fiskebaren, Oslo Sausage Company, Jamie’s Italian, Norgeglasset, BIT, Hunter Bar, Flybar, Humle & Malt, Burger King, Northland, Parken, Two Tigers, Deli & Bakery by Jamie Oliver, TGI Fridays, News Bar, Havsalt, Haven, Fjøla, Everyday Kitchen og Fiskeriet.

Hanoi

Lonely Planet, the world?s popular travel guide book publisher, has listed Hanoi, capital city of Vietnam, and the second city Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) in the Top 10 best-value destinations for 2016.

Foreign visitors only need around 20 USD per day for food, lodging and sightseeing in the two cities, vietnamnet.vn reported.

Other “wallet-friendly” destinations include Estonia, East Africa, New Mexico state (in the USA), Bosnia and Herzegovina, Galicia (Spain), Quebec City (Canada), Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast, Timor-Leste (East-Timor), and Western Australia.

Vietnam’s two metropolises were also named among the top 5 best cities for low budget vacations in 2015 earlier this year by DrPrem, a renowned travel and tourism website.

The ranking was based on average daily expenditures on food, accommodations and transportation.

The estimated daily budget stands round 17.40 USD in Hanoi where foods and drinks were deemed delicious and inexpensive while beautiful rice fields and distant mountain ranges added to the magic of the general landscape.

The travel site noted that Ho Chi Minh City can also be kind to the wallet, though it is slightly more expensive than Hanoi, raising the daily expenses to 17.79 USD.

Hilton Worldwide will be bringing its DoubleTree by Hilton brand to Spain’s capital city in an agreement announced last week with Hoteles Tematicos, which will operate the hotel under a franchise agreement. DoubleTree by Hilton Madrid Prado is set to welcome its first guests in the summer of 2016, and will be Hilton’s second hotel in the city, joining the Hilton Madrid Airport Hotel, hotelnewsresource.com reported.

Named after the nearby Museum del Prado, in the central neighbourhood of Cortes, a pedestrian friendly area with an abundance of bars and restaurants, the property will undergo renovation and will open with 61 guestrooms and suites and an all-day restaurant.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, Europe & Africa, Hilton Worldwide, said, “Spain is the third most visited country in the world, coupled with Madrid’s growing leisure tourism industry, the capital city is a great location to further grow the DoubleTree by Hilton brand. In such a great location, DoubleTree by Hilton Madrid Prado will be well placed to champion Madrid’s inner city hotel market.”

Guillermo Pérez, Hoteles Temáticos managing director, said of the agreement, “DoubleTree by Hilton Madrid Prado will be a quality property, designed to a very high standard and with full service amenities. We are extremely excited to be collaborating with Hilton Worldwide in introducing DoubleTree by Hilton to Madrid.”

Madrid is a city rich in culture with a wealth of globally renowned attractions from Puerta del Sol and the Gran Vía boulevard to Plaza de España and Malasaña. Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport offers direct flights to destinations across the world, and is located less than 15 km from the hotel.

DoubleTree by Hilton Madrid Prado joins five DoubleTree by Hilton hotels currently trading in Spain – DoubleTree by Hilton Girona, Alexandra Barcelona – A DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Conference Center La Mola, DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Spa Emporda and the recently opened DoubleTree by Hilton Reserva del Higuerón.

John Greenleaf, global head, DoubleTree by Hilton, said, “DoubleTree by Hilton is the right brand to introduce Hilton to Madrid’s city centre. Our warm and welcoming culture of hospitality, beginning with DoubleTree by Hilton’s signature chocolate chip cookie presented to each guest on arrival, will provide a home for visitors to explore the rich history of this city.”

DoubleTree by Hilton Madrid Prado will provide travellers with more choice and meet the growing demand for international hotel brands with full-service quality guest experiences and benefits like Hilton’s award winning guest loyalty programme, Hilton HHonors®. Members who book directly through preferred Hilton channels have access to benefits including free standard Wi-Fi, as well as digital amenities that are available exclusively through the industry-leading Hilton HHonors mobile app.

DoubleTree by Hilton Madrid Prado will be located at Calle San Agustín 3, Madrid.

HALVMARATON-DELTAKERE I BANGKOK BLE LURT UT PÅ “NESTEN-MARATON”

Bangkok Halvmaraton 2015.

CAPE TOWN DOMINATES; CONTINUES TO ATTRACT MORE TOURISTS DESPITE VISA CHALLENGES

Despite mixed reports about the aftermath of government’s revised visa regulations, the City of Cape Town has been attracting more and more international tourists and raking in billions, thesouthafrican.com reported.

Cape Town’s tourism sector has seen steady growth since 2012, despite the government’s controversial visa rules. Tourism spend has increased by R1.2 billion in the last three years bringing the current total spend to R15.6 billion, up from R14.4 billion in 2012.

According to research done for the city council, of the Western Cape’s 1 745 300 visitors, 94% choose Cape Town as their destination of choice. This report is the first that’s been able to determine tourism spend by domestic travellers on day trips to Cape Town, a total of R3.2 billion in 2013.

“This underscores the importance of not underestimating day trips to the city. We need to take cognisance of the bigger picture: although day visitors do not spend on overnight accommodation, they spend on the city?s attractions, restaurants, local transport and shopping, amongst others,” said Garreth Bloor, the city’s mayoral committee member for tourism, events and economic development.

Bloor went on to say that R3.2 billion is a “significant” contribution to the city’s economy annually.

“This spending power of all visitors to our city helps to stimulate local job creation. We have seen an encouraging upward trend over the last few years, with the number of jobs increasing steadily.”

“Currently there are 38 838 permanent jobs and 15 489 temporary jobs created in the local tourism sector. I am pleased to see this positive trend, especially during the tough economic climate that we are facing currently.”

“Sustainable job creation is a huge challenge so every job created is most welcomed.”

According to Traveller24, last year 28 000 000 domestic trips were taken in the country, with 10 247 614 foreign arrivals to SA.
