Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has inaugurated Ghana’s first Embassy in Kuwait City in Kuwait, the ghanaweb.com website reported.

The foreign minister said the event marks an important milestone in the diplomatic relations between Ghana and Kuwait which dates back to the period when the Ghanaian embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was concurrently accredited to Kuwait.
Foreign Minister Ayorkor Botcwey said due to the increasing political and economic relations between both countries, Kuwait opened its embassy in Accra in 2015 and that Ghana decided last year to establish an embasy in Kuwait to accelerate the diplomatic, economic, investment and trade ties between the two countries.
Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey added that since there is a growing population of Ghanaians and Ghanaian students in various parts of Kuwait.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah praised the strong relations between the two countries, which have entered its 44th year since the establishment of official relations between them.

Qatars nasjonale flyselskap Qatar Airways innstiller alle flygninger til nabolandet Saudi Arabia, melder nyhetsbyrået AFP og NRK.
De to flyselskapene Etihad og Emirates, med base i henholdsvis Abu Dhabi og Dubai i De forente arabiske emirater, har innstilt alle flygninger til og fra Qatar fra tirsdag morgen av.
Saudi-Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, Jemen, De forente arabiske emirater og Maldivene har kuttet alle diplomatiske forbindelser med Qatar, og beskylder emiratet for å støtte terrorisme. Også luftfart, land- og sjøtransport til og fra Qatar blir kuttet.

Egypt, De forente arabiske emirater, Saudi-Arabia, Bahrain, Jemen, og Maldivene i Indiahavet bryter forbindelsene med Gulf-staten Qatar, stenger sine ambassader i hovedstaden Doha, og utviser diplomater og andre qatarske statsborgere, melder internasjonale medier.
Blant annet har Egypt bedt Qatars ambassadør i Kairo om å forlate landet innen 48 timer. Andre qatarske borgere får 14 dager på å forlate de arabiske landene det gjelder.
Bakgrunnen for den diplomatiske krisen er at de seks landene beskylder emiratet Qatar for å støtte terrorisme.
De seks landene lukker også alle land-, sjø- og luftfartsforbindelser til og fra Qatar.
Utenriksdepartementet i Qatar sier at avgjørelsen om å kutte bånd er «ubegrunnet», skriver den internasjonale tv-kanalen Al Jazeera, som har base i Doha.
– Tiltakene er ubegrunnet og er basert på påstander som ikke er grunnet i fakta, opplyser utenriksdepartementet.

Qatar Airways will provide its transit passengers free hotel stays and complimentary transit visa as it seeks to promote and market capital city Doha as a destination of choice for international travellers. The offer allows passengers travelling through Doha to experience a taste of the Middle East for free, the financialexpress.com website reported.
Qatar Airways flies 30 million transit passengers through its Hamad International Airport hub in Doha and it aims to convert a major chunk of these passengers into stopover visitors. The initiative is part of a broader campaign, “+Qatar”, launched along with Qatar Tourism Agency (QTA), which seeks to encourage transit passengers to consider adding Doha to their itinerary, according to a statement from the airline.
Qatar Airways and QTA, will give passengers, throughout the summer, a chance to turn a layover into a stay-over by offering four and five star hotel accommodation at no charge to those transiting through Doha.
“This exclusive initiative provides the opportunity to add an extra element to our passengers existing travel plans with a complimentary hotel stay in some of Doha’s finest hotels,” Akbar Al-Baker, Qatar Airways group Chief Executive Officer.
The free hotel accommodation, available throughout the summer, will offer passengers the opportunity to explore Doha and experience city tours, desert safari adventures or a dinner cruise aboard a traditional dhow, giving visitors a taste of authentic Arabian hospitality.
“It was a great source of pride for all of us in Qatar when we launched the transit visa last November. We have already seen a surge in stopover passengers with a 53 per cent increase recorded in March 2017 compared to the same month last year.
“With the launch of +Qatar, we aim to convert a larger portion of the 30 million passengers passing through Hamad International Airport into stopover visitors,” Chief Tourism Development Officer at QTA Hassan Al-Ibrahim said.

The president of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović opened the Croatian embassy in Kuwait City last week-end and assessed that her two-day state visit to Kuwait was “very beneficial” for developing relations between the two countries, especially in the economy., the Office of the President reported.
“I believe that this visit is very useful also in the sense that the Kuwaiti have perhaps begun to perceive Croatia in a different way. I am optimistic and confident that this visit will result in new business deals between Croatian and Kuwaiti companies, as well as the further presence of Croatian businesspeople, products and services here in Kuwait,” said President Grabar-Kitarović.
She assessed the opening of the Croatian Embassy in Kuwait as very important. She added that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah’s attendance at the inauguration of the Embassy in Kuwait City testifies to the great importance attached to it by the Kuwaiti side.
“It is of paramount importance to have an embassy in this part of the world. During these past two days, I could see opportunities for the development of, in particular, business relations between Croatia and Kuwait and this part of the world, Gulf countries in general,” said the President.

The formal opening of the Australian embassy in Qatar’s capital city Doha is a major milestone in strengthening bilateral relations with Qatar, Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said on Thursday, Gulf Times reported.
“Australia has been keenly looking at Qatar, a fast developing country with a high level of remarkably good infrastructural developments in the recent years,” the foreign minister stated after inaugurating the embassy at Tornado Tower in West Bay.
Pointing out that the Australian embassy in Qatar is the fourth in the Gulf region, after those in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, Ms Bishop said the new embassy would not only accelerate travel between the two countries but also contribute steadily to Australia playing a larger role in the development of Qatar.
“We hope Qatar would continue to invest in such areas in Australia as tourism, hospitality, agriculture and commodities,” Bishop said while citing growing co-operation in many areas.
“The figure is expected to shoot up in coming years with the opening of the full-fledged Australian embassy in Qatar,” she hoped while adding that the current joint ventures between Australia and Qatar are expected to grow phenomenally in future.
While replying to a query, Julie Bishop said about 5,500 Australians are currently residing in Qatar and they are contributing enormously to the development of their host nation.
Qatar Foreign Ministry’s protocol director Ibrahim Fakhroo also attended the opening ceremony. Bishop cut a ribbon to mark the embassy opening in the presence of Australia’s ambassador Axel Wabenhorst.
Qatar is believed to have the most number of Australian citizens after the UAE. Kuwait, which has an Australian embassy for about a decade, has about 1,100 Australians. In the UAE, which has a consulate in Dubai besides the region’s first Australian embassy in Abu Dhabi, there are about 20,000 Australians.
