Mövenpick Ibn Battuta Gate Hotel, Dubai

The Swiss hotel group Mövenpick is eyeing entry into Abu Dhabi as the city grows its tourism offerings, according to The National newspaper in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates.

Demand for hotel rooms in Abu Dhabi outstripped supply in March, the research group STR Global said yesterday. Average occupancy levels stood at 83.3 per cent, a 4 per cent increase over the same period last year. 

Large trade fairs and exhibitions fuelled demand for hotel rooms last month, led by the four-day Integrated Offshore Commissioning course, and the week-long Abu Dhabi Aviation and Aerospace Week, which included the Abu Dhabi Air Expo and the Red Bull Air Race.

Mövenpick is currently in the final stages of signing a contract for a hotel in Abu Dhabi, according to Andreas Mattmüller, the chief operating officer at Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts for Middle East and South Asia.

This year, it will open Mövenpick Hotel City Star Jeddah in Saudi Arabia with 230 rooms and a third property in Doha, capital of Qatar, with 136 rooms.

It plans to open two more properties in Dubai in the next two years. Mövenpick Hotel Apartments Downtown Dubai with 246 apartments is expected to open next year. The opening of the 251-room Mövenpick Hotel Dubai Media City has been pushed to 2018.

Mövenpick said it expects to add 15 properties in the Middle East by 2020. It currently operates 30 hotels in the Middle East. In the UAE, it operates six hotels, all of which are in Dubai.

As part of the strategy it is looking at projects in Muscat, capital of Oman; Sohar and Salalah besides Abu Dhabi, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah.

Dubai, which had around 78,184 hotel rooms at the end of November, according to STR Global, is expected to add more in the run-up to Expo 2020.

Emiratet Dubai i De forente arabiske emirater vil slå sin egen rekord og bygge en enda høyere skyskraper enn Burj Khalifa, som i dag er verdens høyeste bygning, skriver VG.

Burj Khalifa, som hadde en prislapp på drøyt 12 milliarder kroner, og ble åpnet 4.januar 2010, er med sine 828 meter verdens høyeste skyskraper.

Bygget innholder blant annet hotell, leiligheter, forretninger, kinoer og kontorer.

Det er eiendomsselskapet Emaar i Dubai som ifølge nyhetsbyrået AFP har planene klare for en enda høyere bygning, som som skal stå ferdig i 2020.

Burj Khalifa het tidligere Burj Dubai, men ble senere oppkalt etter presidenten i De forente arabiske emirater, Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (68), som også er emir av Abu Dhabi, som er forbundshovedstad i emiratene.

“Burj” er forøvrig det arabiske ordet for “tårn”.

Vinterjakker på salg: Tykk, varm og stilig

Dubai er nå verdens tryggeste – og mest populære, skatteparadis, skriver Nettavisen. Dubai er ett av de sju emiratene i De forente arabiske emirater.

Mens politikere i Norge er opprørt over at DNB Luxembourg hjalp et 20-talls nordmenn å opprette offshoreselskap i et skatteparadis, så strømmer det daglig milliardbeløp inn i Dubai.

Det er en enkel grunn til dette – Dubai har nemlig hverken inntektsskatt eller formueskatt, og tilbyr å opprette postboks-selskaper på bare et døgns varsel.

De såkalte offshoreselskapene trenger ikke ha et fysisk kontor i emiratet. Det er nok med Skype og en epostadresse og opplegget er klart for eksempelvis nordmenn som bor i Norge, men som vil skjule en formue i utlandet. 

Det koster rundt 15.000 kroner i året for registrering og andre kostnader for et offshoreselskap i Dubai.

Alle passasjerer som reiser over de to flyplassene i Dubai, ett av de sju emiratene i De forente arabiske emirater, må nå betale en avgift tilsvarende 90 kroner, Avgiften er for bruk av flyplassenes fasiliteter, skriver travelnews.no

Passasjerer som forlater Dubai, også i transitt, skal alle betale avgiften. Unntaket er barn under to år, kabinpersonale samt passasjerer som har samme ankomst- og avgangsflight.

Det er flyselskapene som skal kreve inn avgiften, og dette vil skje i forbindelse med utstedelsen av billettene, om det er i eller utenfor Dubai.

Avgiften begynte å løpe allerede 1. mars, for flyavganger fra Dubai etter 30. juni.

Målet med den nye avgiften er å utbedre infrastrukturen ved flyplassene i Dubai og øke kapasiteten, som innen 2023 trolig vil nå 100 millioner passasjerer, ifølge Travelnews.

Det skal videre øremerkes midler til utbedring av terminalbygget Councourse D ved Dubai International Airport, som også inkluderer utvidelse av Terminal 2 og oppgradering av Terminal 1.

Flyplassene i Dubai er Dubai International Airport og Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International Airport.

Abu Dhabi’s Tourism and Culture Authority is leading a delegation of hotels and travel agents from the emirate to China next week, visiting five major cities with a roadshow, reports Gulf News.

The city of Abu Dhabi is the federal capital of the United Arab Emirates.

The visit aims to showcase Abu Dhabi’s tourism offerings to China, and to reinforce the existing growth of inbound tourism from China.

The delegation, which also includes representatives from Etihad Airways, will visit Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong over five days.

China is the third largest overseas market for Abu Dhabi, with 177,000 Chinese arrivals in 2015, an increase of 47 per cent over the previous year, and a 31 per cent increase in guest nights at hotels and hotel apartments to nearly 264,000.

Also aiming to boost tourism from China is the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah’s Tourism Development Authority, which hosted a workshop for travel industry experts last week to offer a better understanding of Chinese tourists’ needs.

Ras Al Khaimah is one of the seven emirates in the UAE.

The event came in response to a growing number of Chinese visitors to Ras Al Khaimah, and discussed China’s current and future outbound tourism developments. It also discussed ways to attract Chinese visitors to the emirate and increase awareness of the emirate as a tourist destination for Chinese tourists specifically from Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou.

In 2015, Ras Al Khaimah saw an 82 per cent increase in Chinese visitors compared to 2014, with the emirate’s tourism board planning to raise the figures further.

Den 14.193 kilometer lange flyruten gikk fra Dubai til Auckland i New Zealand og tok 17 timer og 15 minutter, skriver aftenposten.no

Flygningen ble gjennomført med Emirates’ nye flyflåte Airbus 380 – verdens største passasjerfly, med landing i Auckland torsdag 3.mars.

– Det er foreløpig ikke aktuelt med en direkterute fra Norge til andre destinasjoner enn Dubai. Per i dag går alle Emirates 150 ruter til og fra Dubai. Det finnes kun et unntak og det er Emiratesruten med en A380 som går daglig fra Dubai via Milano til New York, sier norgessjef Terje Grue i Emirates.
