Abu Dhabi, the federal capital and the second most populous city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), after Dubai, is expecting more than 20 per cent growth in Indian tourist arrivals this year, The Indian Express reported.
“India has been the number one source market for us globally and we have been witnessing a steady growth in tourists coming to Abu Dhabi from the sub-continent.
“We are already in the last month of 2016, and are confident of seeing over 20 per cent growth this year,” Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority Country Manager, India, Bejan Dinshaw said.
Abu Dhabi saw 280,000 Indian tourists checking into hotels in 2015.
With a large number of Indian expats living in Abu Dhabi, the actual number of visitors to the capital city is much more, he said.
The capital of UAE has already witnessed 236,000 Indians staying in hotels and spending an average 3.2 nights till September this year, Dinshaw said.
After India, the other top tourist-generating markets for Abu Dhabi are the United Kingdom, China, Germany and France.
Indian are also among the top spenders in Abu Dhabi, he said.
“Indians love shopping and are the leading spenders in Abu Dhabi. To attract shoppers we celebrate Summer Season (from June-September) during Ramzan, where many discounts and other schemes are offered,” the official said.
Abu Dhabi, placing itself as an affordable luxurious destination for Indians, is mainly targeting segments like wedding, honeymoons, family, single travellers and meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE).
With good connectivity – 250 flights a week connecting 15 Indian cities directly with Abu Dhabi – India will continue to remain a major source of holiday-makers coming to the city, he said.
“We aim to make Abu Dhabi the first choice of destination for Indians looking for long weekends and short breaks. And proximity and good connectivity gives Abu Dhabi an edge in this regard,” Benjan Dinshaw added.

Legoland i Dubai sin Burj Khalifa-modell består av 439 000 brikker.
Legoland åpnet nylig sin nyeste park, i Dubai, og her finner man selvsagt et lokalt høydepunkt: Lego-modellen av Burj Khalifa rager hele 17 meter høyt, som verdens høyeste modellhus, skriver Se og Hør.
Modellen består av 439 000 Lego-brikker, og det tok 5000 timer å bygge modellhuset, som veier et tonn.
Dubai er ett av sju emirater i De forente arabiske emirater, der Abu Dhabi er føderal hovedstad.
Originalen, det berømte landemerket Burj Khalifa, er med sine 828 meter verdens høyeste bygning.

Verden er et skritt nærmere en ny måte å reise på. Transport i lydens hastighet skal frakte deg 130 km, fra Dubai til Abu Dhabi, på 10-12 minutter, skriver NRK.
Selskapet Hyperloop One inngikk tidligere denne måneden en avtale med vei- og transportmyndighetene i emiratet Dubai om å utrede bygging av et hyperloop-system i området rundt Dubai og resten av De forente arabiske emirater.
De forente arabiske emirater består av sju emirater, der Abu Dhabi er den føderale hovedstaden.

I juli knuste Dubai International Airport i De forente arabiske emirater alle rekorder. Da reiste 7,6 millioner passasjerer over flyplassen, som er i med å bli en av verdens travleste – og viktigste, skriver travelnews.no
Økningen sammenlignet med året før er på hele 14 prosent, og i løpet av årets syv første måneder har mer enn 48 millioner mennesker vært innom flyplassen. Det er økning på syv prosent. I fjor passerte for øvrig flyplassen London Heathrow som verdens travleste, skriver nettstedet.
Av land som reiste over Dubai i juli toppet India listen med 990 213 passasjerer, så følger Storbritannia med 573 025, og Saudi Arabia med 475 841.
De viktigste reisemålene fra Dubai er London, Doha i Qatar, Mumbai, Kuwait og Bangkok.
– Denne sommeren var den travleste i flyplassens historie, med et snitt på rundt en kvart millioner passasjerer daglig, sier flyplassens administrerende direktør, Paul Griffiths.
Dubai International Airport forbereder seg i disse dager på ytterligere vekst i trafikken, da millioner skal feire den islamske festivalen Eid Al Adha og delta i den årlige pilegrimsturen til Saudi-Arabia.

Morocco has opened the new headquarters of its Consulate General in Dubai in the presence of a number of members of diplomatic corps accredited to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and members of the Moroccan community in the UAE, the Gulf News reported.
During the event, the Moroccan Consulate launched the “Smart Consulate” application, which will enable members of the Moroccan community to apply for a number of consular administrative services through cell phones.
In a speech, Ambassador of Morocco to the UAE, Mr Mohamad Ait Ali, based in the UAE federal capital Abu Dhabi, expressed his pride at the opening of the new headquarters of Consulate General, which is seen in the context of enhancing the services provided by the Moroccan diplomatic mission to the Moroccan community.
Mohammad Al Bernoussi, Consul-General of the kingdom of Morocco, emphasised his desire to provide state-of-the-art services to the Moroccan community.
