More parade floats and more international media coverage is what’s said to be in store for the upcoming “Carnaval International de Victoria” – the Seychelles archipelago’s upcoming annual carnival event set to commence on April 24, the Seychelles News Agency – www.seychellesnewsagency.com reported.

With just nine days to go for the start of the three-day long costumed and entertainment-filled extravaganza, revellers can look forward to a total of 52 floats to please the crowds as they parade through the streets of the Seychelles capital, Victoria, located on the main island of Mahé.

According to the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB)’s Chief Executive Officer, Sherin Naiken, who was speaking to the local press on Monday afternoon, around a hundred media houses from all over the world will be covering the event while also exploring the country as a travel destination.

Air Seychelles has also confirmed that it will be sponsoring travel costs for carnival participants and international media organisations, including return flights for the event, reduced cargo rates and excess baggage allowances – all in all, a total contribution of around $360,000.

“Twenty-nine countries have confirmed their involvement with twenty having a delegation in the float parade. There are thirty-two local floats which, all together, will create a huge and long carnival this year,” said Naiken.

This year the streets of Victoria, always packed on parade day with festive locals and mesmerised visitors to the islands, will be enthralled at the spectacle of creative floats and spangled costumes of Brazil, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Germany, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Zambia, Spain, Italy, Swaziland, Kenya, Sweden, Russia, Bahamas, Morocco, Cote d’Ivoire, Mauritius and Reunion Island.

The legendary Notting Hill Carnival Roadshow group from the United Kingdom has confirmed its participation, sending five distinct groups of performing artists to the Indian Ocean island nation to celebrate what they have termed “the most diverse carnival in the world”.

There is no longer a connection to Moscow as the Russian airline UTair closed the route as in the wake of economic sanctions. Moreover, the Austrian airline Niki will allegedly not open the planned routes to Vienna and Brussels, according to the The Slovak Spectator – www.sme.sk website.

UTair has been operating the flights to Moscow for four years. This year it planned to offer to passengers one flight per week. Instead, it will end the flights for unspecified period.

“It is a direct consequence of anti-Russian sanctions observed by the international community”, Ivan Trhlík, head of the Bratislava airport, told the Hospodárske Noviny daily, adding there is no hope to restore the connection by the end of the summer season.

The abolishment of the flights will however not significantly impact the number of passengers of the airport, Trhlík added. Meanwhile, the Austrian low-cost airline Niki announced it would abolish its plans for the Bratislava airport.

“Niki will not fly from Bratislava”, Aage Dünhaupt, senior vice-president of Air Berlin, the owner of Niki, told the Trend.sk website.

Niki announced launching the flights to Vienna, Brussels and also Mallorca in late 2014, with the planned start in spring 2015. They then postponed the launch to autumn. Now Dünhaupt told the Austrianaviation.net website that after re-calculating they found out that they can use the plane for other opportunities.

Marriott International has announced plans to open the first Courtyard by Marriott brand hotel in Curaçao capital city of Willemstad. The project will be developed by CMC Real Estate N.V., www.hospitality.net reported.

The 177-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel, scheduled to open in 2017, will be located only a few blocks from the existing cruise ship terminal. The property will be part of amixed-useddevelopment that will include retail space, an entertainment area, three restaurants and a casino.

“The Courtyard by Marriott brand was a perfect fit for this hotel, and combined with Marriott’s backbone and sales engine, we are confident that the hotel will be highly successful and play a large role in the continued emergence of island,” said Mr. Klaus Moser, one of the shareholders and operator of the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Curaçao.

Det nyåpnede kollektivknutepunktet i Praha mangler rulletrapp, og den internasjonale flyplassen i den tsjekkiske hovedstaden har derfor leid inn bærere som hjelper passasjerene med bagasjen opp trappene, skriver VG.

Forlengelsen av metroen skulle gjøre transporten mellom Vaclav Havel International Airport og sentrum av Praha lettere. Det var planlagt at stasjonen Nadrazi Veleslavin skulle bli det store kollektivknutepunktet.

Der skulle passasjerene overføres fra metro til tog de siste åtte kilometerne til flyplassen. Men slik gikk det ikke. Stasjonen er ennå ikke ferdig og passasjerene må nå over på buss, og bussterminalen ligger 32 bratte trappetrinn over metrostasjonen. Det er der det mangler rulletrapp. Og det er der flyplassen har leid inn portører som bærer passasjerenes bagasje opp og ned trappene hver dag mellom klokka 05 og klokka 22, heter det videre.

En talsmann for flyplassen, Michal Rehorek, sier til Mail Online at portørene koster dem titusenvis av tsjekkiske koruna hver måned.

-Men for Praha flyplass dreier det seg ikke bare om pris, dette er først og fremst en investering i komfort og kvalitet på tjenesten, sier han.

Det er bygget en rulletrapp ved Nadrazi Veleslavin-stasjonen, men den leder ikke til bussterminalen, men i stedet til området hvor det skal komme en togstasjon en eller annen gang i fremtiden.

Madrid’s recently created Tourist Police force had the chance to show its worth this Easter as visitors flocked to the capital city of Spain, filling up to 95 per cent of hotel rooms, the euroweeklynews.com reported.

The new force, which is made up of approximately 60 officers who work to tend to the needs of visitors to the city in a variety of languages, is easily spotted as officers wear brightly coloured jackets with Tourist Police emblazoned on the back and can be seen patrolling near main attractions on white, three-wheeled Segways.

Based at Terminal Four of Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport to help visitors as soon as they arrive in the city, the force also has two mobile offices which can help deal with problems including reports and document loss, and contact consulates and embassies.

In an effort to make Colombia’s capital Bogota more green and efficient, a new public bike system is set to be fully implemented by 2018, the www.colombiareports.co website reported.

Bogota’s public bike system will consist of 2851 public bicycles and 256 bike stations, distributed over most the city’s districts.

Last year, the city had already opened 13 bicycle stations, in an attempt to push commuters to use the bicycle and public transport to relieve the city’s increasingly congested road infratsructure.

The secretary of transport announced that the $1.4 million contract has been awarded to BiciBogota. A temporary union consisting of Chinese company Jiangsu Hompe Technology and Colombian company Cartuena de Asea Total.

BiciBogota offered to purchase the bikes from China. With China’s cheaper labor and production, compared to Europe or North America, costs may be as much as 60% below the world market.

However, BiciBogota’s rival, Bicicletas Seguras para Bogota, has questioned the structural integrity of the Chinese bikes. Reminiscent of the capital’s 2010 public bike trial, which allegedly partly failed due to the bikes being inadequate for Bogota’s intense traffic.

Although BiciBogota’s initial bid was rejected because the originally proposed bikes did not meet specifications, they later presented evidence convincing the city to take their offer.

The secretary of transport has stated that there are clearly specified features and functionalities which must be met by the bikes and stations. Should BiciBogota fail to comply with these requirements there will be financial penalties.

So far, everything seems to be in place for Bogota’s bikes to start appearing in the city from June this year.
