Dublin Port Company has announced the launch of Cruise Dublin, the company’s new Cruise Tourism Development and Marketing agency established to grow Dublin as Ireland’s premier port of choice for cruise, reports the afloat.ie website.

Cruise Dublin’s role is to promote Dublin as Ireland’s cruise capital to cruise lines internationally, working collectively with its members who are drawn from the capital’s leading retail outlets, visitor experiences and tourism bodies, including Fáilte Ireland, the Irish national tourism authority. 

As a membership organisation, Cruise Dublin’s remit is to support those businesses in the capital looking to develop their offering in tandem with the future growth of Dublin as a marquee cruise destination.

Its formation comes as figures reveal that cruise tourism is currently growing at a rate of 20 per cent per annum in Dublin, and projected to grow substantially in the coming years.

Allure of the Seas

Dublin Port Company’s ABR Project, recently approved by An Bord Pleanála, will facilitate future growth and allow Dublin Port to handle the world’s largest cruise liners, including the 360 meter long Allure of the Seas, owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises, the Miami-based Norwegian-American shipping company. 

The ABR Project, once complete, will mean that larger ships will be able to routinely call at Dublin, turn within the expanded Alexandra Basin West and berth as far upriver as East Link Bridge, adding a new dimension to the cityscape.

Mexico received a record 32 million tourists in 2015, enough to make the Aztec nation the 10th most popular tourist destination in the world, according to the Mexican government, reports yahoo.com news.

The top destinations for international visitors in 2015 were the federal capital Mexico City, Cancun and Acapulco.

Tourism accounts for 8.5 per cent of Mexico’s gross domestic product and the sector is growing faster than the economy as a whole, Tourism Minister Enrique de la Madrid told a press conference.

The number of international visitors has increased 37 per cent increase since the start of President Enrique Pena Nieto’s administration in December 2012.

The expansion in tourism has created 800,000 direct jobs and another 1.2 million indirect jobs over the last 10 years.

International arrivals were boosted by special events such as the October 30-November 1 Mexico Grand Prix, which brought 366,174 spectators to Mexico City.

The Austrian consulate in the Caribbean island, a semi-independent country within the Kingdom of The Netherlands, opened its doors in the Jan Thiel-area in Willemstad, the capital, last Monday.

The opening ceremony was performed by Curacao’s Prime Minister Ben Whiteman, Werner Druml, the Austrian ambassador in The Hague, and the honorary consul, Harald Buchmayer.

With the opening of a consulate Austria and Curacao hope to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

The Spanish Foreign Minister, Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo, has announced that Spain plan to open an embassy in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi in the coming months, reports georgiatoday.ge

During a meeting in Tbilisi this week with his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Janelidze, the two ministers said that initial steps towards open a Spanish diplomatic mission in Tbilisi have already been taken.

At present, the Spanish interest section located in the embassy of The Netherlands in Tbilisi handles Madrid’s consular affairs.

Mr Janelidze also took time to praise the increasingly close political, economic, agricultural and cultural relations between Georgia and Spain.

The two sides also discussed Georgia’s expected visa liberalization regime with the EU and the NATO Summit in the Polish capital Warsaw in July.

Mr Garcia-Margallo reaffirmed Spain’s support for Georgia’s territorial integrity as well as Tbilisi’s drive towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration during a meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili.

Studio Gang Architects, based in Chicago and New York, has been chosen by the US Department of State to design the new US Embassy compound in Brasilia, the Brazilian federal capital city, reports archdaily.com 

Selected from a shortlist of six, the Jeanne Gang-led practice won the commission with their “strong and cohesive team approach with more than 20 years of collaborative experience executing projects with complex constraints at challenging sites,” says the report. 

“The multi-building campus will be situated on the existing 4.8 hectares (12-acre) Chancery complex within the city’s “Diplomatic Sector” near the seat of the Brazilian government.

The project will rebuild the compound and includes: a Chancery, Marine Security Guard Residence, support facilities, perimeter security, and facilities for the Embassy community.”

Security fears are on everybody’s lips at the ITB travel trade fair in the German capital Berlin as a battered tourist industry seeks to reassure travellers and tour operators that they need not shy away from booking summer holidays for this year, the Reuters news agency reported.

Attacks in tourist hotspots like a Tunisian beach resort and Paris over the past year have rattled travellers’ confidence, sending bookings for Tunisia, Turkey and Egypt plummeting and heralding a slowdown in demand for international travel.

“People have money to spend, but there’s a strong negative impact from the geopolitical situation. People fear attacks,” Roy Scheerder, commercial director at low cost Dutch airline Transavia, told Reuters at ITB.

The ITB (Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin) fair takes place at the Messe Berlin 9-13 March.

In 2015, 5,000 journalists from 75 countries and 350 bloggers from 29 countries attended the ITB Berlin.10,000 exhibitors from 185 countries took part, and close to 200,000 people (members of the travel industry and the general public) visited the fair. The turnover of business deals signed was ? 6,7 billion.

Fursetgruppen, som også driver Ekebergrestauranten og Michelin-restauranten Maaemo overtar driften av nedlagte Grand Café i Oslo, skriver vg.no

Selskapet har sikret seg en langsiktig leiekontrakt av Grand Cafe, melder Dagens Næringsliv.

Grand Hotel

Tradisjonsrike Grand Café måtte stenge dørene 1.september i fjor, etter 141 år. Flere år med underskudd førte til at selskapet Pandox, som driftet Grand Hotel og kafeen, ga opp driften av kafedelen.

Nå skal Fursetgruppen, som eies av Bjørn Tore Furset (47), igjen skape aktivitet i de historiske lokalene.

Det er allerede klart at navnet på spisestedet fremdeles skal være Grand Cafe, og Furset håper å være i gang med driften til julebordssesongen starter.

Fra før driver Fursetgruppen også blant annet også restaurantene Tjuvholmen Sjømagasin, Lofoten Fiskerestaurant, Dyna Fyr, Maaemo og Ekebergrestauranten.

“The 1916 Tour – Beyond Barricades”, the latest addition to Dublin Bus Tours has been launched in Ireland’s capital. It was launched by the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe, reports financialexpress.com

Speaking at the launch of the tour, the minister said, “1916 is undoubtedly the most renowned period in our country’s history. As we approach the centenary of the week that led to the birth of the Irish State, people are looking to find out more about the events surrounding the rising, any possible family connections to what went on and the experiences of the men and women who fought at the GPO and other landmark sites. Dublin Bus’ 1916 Tour Bus is a welcome addition to the commercial services the company already has in place and promises an accurate and convincing portrayal of the rebellion to Dubliners and those coming from further afield.”

Ifølge Joni Sundelin vil Qatar Airways’ tilstedeværelse styrke Helsinki Airports (Helsingfors-Vanda) allerede solide tilbud av ruter til Asia og Midt-Østen, samt India, Afrika og Australia.

Qatar Airways, som er en del av OneWorld-alliansen, tilbyr ruter fra Doha til 150 reisemål på seks kontinenter. I fjor vant flyselskapet for øvrig Skytrax’ prestisjefylte pris som verdens beste flyselskap.

Dato for oppstart av den nye ruten er ennå ikke satt.
