I dag 15.januar åpnet Internationale Grüne Woche Berlin – Grüne Woche i dagligtale, en av verdens største, og eldste, matmesser – der landbruks- og hageprodukter står i fokus.
Grüne Woche regnes som den viktigste matmessen i verden.
1200 utstillere fra 64 land fra hele verden deltar, og vel 80 norske utstillere (mot 130 i 2015) er på plass. Til stede ved åpningen var Norges ferske landbruksminister Jon Georg Dahle (Frp), sammen med ministerkolleger fra alle deltakerlandene.
Til stede var også den tyske forbundspresidenten, Joachim Gauck.
Grüne Woche blir arrangert i messehallene under Funkturm (bildet) og ble arrangert for første gang i 1926. Hele 50.000 mennesker besøkte den aller første messen. Nå besøker over en halv million mennesker den populære messen.

Berlin’s bus line 100 is one of the great tourist bargains of Germany’s capital. A half-hour ride on a double-decker bus that takes passengers past many of Berlin’s chief landmarks and only costs small change, reports Deutsche Welle.
The 100 bus route is a hot tip for tourists in Berlin. In a half-hour trip from Zoo station in the western part of the city to the landmark Alexanderplatz square (or vice versa), passengers tour through a number of the city’s must-see spots. It was brought into service 25 years ago after Germany’s reunification and was the first bus line to connect East and West Berlin. It has since gained enormous popularity as a tourist bus.
Some hotels give guests a “Welcome Card” for free that includes use of all public transport. If they don’t, a ticket from the driver costing only 2.70 euros ($2.90) takes you right through central Berlin.

My God, Help Me to Survive This Deadly Love (Mein Gott, hilf mir, diese tödliche Liebe zu überleben), also referred to as the Fraternal Kiss (Bruderkuss), is a 365 x 480 cm grafitti painting on the East Side Gallery at the Berlin Wall, by Russian painter Dmitri Vrubel. It was created in 1990, and depicts Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev (1906-1982) and East German leader Erich Honecker (1912-1994) in a fraternal embrace, and reproducing a photograph taken by Regis Bossu, that captured the moment on October 7 1979 during the 30th anniversary celebration of the foundation of the German Democratic Republic.
After “unbelievable” acts of vandalism, Berlin has decided to build a barrier around the East Side Gallery. Officials have blamed tourists who consistently write their names on the wall or chip away at the murals, Deutsche Welle – dw.de reported.
The city of Berlin announced plans on Thursday to build a barrier around the East Side Gallery, the largest remaining stretch of the Berlin wall, to protect it from souvenir-hunting tourists.
“We have witnessed in recent weeks and months an unbelievable amount of vandalism,” said Sascha Langenbach, a spokesman for the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district, during a press conference. When announcing plans for a fence, she asserted: “It’s about respect.”
Around three million tourists visit the site each year, with many of them writing or etching their names on the wall, taking selfies of the act, or even chipping away at the historic murals.
The East Side Gallery is a 1.3 kilometer (one mile) stretch of the Berlin wall which was covered in over 100 iconic murals between February and September 1990 by artists from around the world. In October, the district began a 230,000 euro ($250,000) renovation project to restore the artworks.
But the new paint was barely dry before tourists defaced many of the completed pictures, reported Adalbert-Maria Klees of the district’s public spaces commission.
“This barrier should make clear that this is a historical monument,” said Klees, who said the immediate vandalism prompted the decision to build the fence. An 80 centimeter-tall (2.6 foot) transparent barrier will keep tourists 1.3 meters (4.3 feet) away from the artworks.
The transparent wall is set to cost 150,000 ($163,000), but should cut down on the unwanted graffiti by 90 percent, according to Klees. Visitors should expect to see the new barrier early next year, along with signs noting the East Side Gallery’s protected monument status.
Until then, the murals which have already been restored will be fenced off from the public.

A “hipster” can be defines as a person who follows the latest trends and fashions, especially those outside the cultural mainstream. Hipsters live in “edgier” areas and are seeking out these neighbourhoods to experience hipster culture such as pop-up restaurants, vegan cafes, independent shops and crafts galleries.
A new demand for “hipster holidays” was identified at the WTM Global Trends Report 2015, released Monday at World Travel Market in London.
There appears to be a battle among European cities for the title of “hipster capital”. But while many places lay claim to the accolade, leading areas include Kreuzberg in Berlin, District VII in Budapest and Miera iela in Riga.
Local residents are spotting new business opportunities, providing authentic hipster tours of specific city districts, while online travel guides including Likealocal and TravelsofAdam, list up-to-date reviews of the ever-changing hipster scene.

I over 50 år har jazzmusikere fra hele verden strømmet til Berlin for å opptre på Jazzfest, som gjør festivalen til en av de eldste og mest prestisjetunge jazzfestivalene i Europa, skriver magasinet Reiselyst.
Også på årets festival loves det konserter og arrangement på scener, klubber og utesteder over hele byen når mangfoldet i jazzen skal feires.

Den nedlagte Berlin-flyplassen Tempelhof skal brukes til flyktningmottak, og to hangarer skal brukes til å huse migranter og flyktninger, skriver VG Nett / NTB.
Soldater, brannfolk og frivillige har satt opp 72 telt i en hangar. Hvert av teltene skal huse ti asylsøkere. Også en annen hanger skal tas i bruk, og den tidligere flyplassen blir dermed midlertidig bolig for 1.200 personer.
Tempelhof har en spesiell plass i Berlins turbulente historie. Den store, halvsirkelformede terminalbygningen som ble bygget mellom 1936 og 1941, er typisk for nazitidens gigantiske arkitektur. Flyplassen var også helt sentral under Berlinblokaden, da sovjetiske styrker forsøkte å sulte ut Vest-Berlin.
Fram til blokaden ble opphevet i 1949, landet allierte fly 277.000 ganger for å bringe mat og drivstoff til Berlin, med Tempelhof som en av de aller viktigste flyplassene.
