Julian Assange på balkongen til Ecuadors ambassade i London. Ambassaden er til dels sterkt bevoktet døgnet rundt, da Assange risikerer å bli pågrepet av britisk politi hvis han forlater ambassaden.
Lørdag var det fire år siden grunnleggeren av WikiLeaks, australske Julian Assange (44) gikk i eksil i Ecuadors ambassade i London, skriver NRK.

Han er begjært utlevert til Sverige hvor han er siktet i en voldtektssak. Julian Assange frykter at Sverige vil utlevere ham til USA.

Åge Aleksandersen & Sambandet opptrer fredag kveld i Royal Albert Hall i London. Dette skjer i forbindelse med at det er 40 år siden Åge Aleksandersen (67) utga sitt debutalbum, 7800 Namsos, i 1975, der låten “Langt igjen til Royal Albert Hall” var spor nummer en.
Det var på en pressekonferanse i Trondheim i januar 2015 at Åge Aleksandersen kom med nyheten.
Det ble lagt ut 3000 billetter til 7900 kroner, som også inkluderer flyreise og tre døgn på hotell. Billettene ble utsolgt på fem minutter.
Debutalbumet solgte i bare 7500 eksemplar, og “Langt igjen til Royal Albert Hall” kom ikke inn på VG-lista, men ble likevel en svært populær låt på radio og på konserter, og er selvsagt blitt en legendarisk signaturlåt for den folkekjære artisten.
Det er Sir Elton John som har originalen til “Langt igjen til Royal Albert Hall”. Originalversjonen heter “Country Comfort” og var med på Elton Johns tredje album, Tumbleweed Connection, som kom i 1970.
I forbindelse med den svært spesielle konserten lettet det ekstra mange fly fra Værnes flyplass denne uka, med retning London. Hele 11 charterfly måtte til for å frakte Åge-fans, de fleste av dem trøndere, men også fra andre deler av landet, til konserten i den britiske hovedstaden.
Før kveldens konsert, med 3.800 publikummere i salen, holdt Åge Aleksandersen og Sambandet pressekonferanse på restuaranten Bodo Schloss i Kensington High Street.

Den britiske illusjonisten og hypnotisøren Derren Brown (45), som er superkjendis og stor tv-stjerne både i hjemlandet og i andre deler av verden, har i tre år jobbet med et prosjekt i fornøyelsesparken Thorpe Park i Surrey utenfor London, og i sommer står det unike spøkelsestoget – som det første i verden i sitt slag – omsider klart, skriver Se og Hør.
Parken lover at Derren Brown’s Ghost Train vil overaske, og at det ikke er en tur for de lettskremte. Det blir 12 mulige togreiser, med to ulike avslutninger.

Britiske arkeologer har funnet de eldste håndskrevne dokumentene som noen gang er funnet i Storbritannia, melder NRK.
Over 400 godt bevarte tretavler fra da romerne styrte i London – romernes Londinium, er funnet under en utgravning (bildet) i den britiske hovedstaden, og det eldste dokumentet er datert 8. januar i år 57, sier en talsperson for Museum of London Archeology (MOLA)

Så langt er 87 av tavlene, som har ligget i gjørme i Walbrooks, som på romernes tid var en elv, men som nå er en underjordisk bekk, tydet og oversatt.
Tavlene / dokumentene var opprinnelig dekket av bivoks for å bevare teksten.
På en av tavlene står det å lese “Londinio Mogontio” – “in London, to Mogontius” – som er den engelske oversettelsen. Tavlen er datert til tidsrommet 65-80 e.Kr.
Ugravningene finner sted i byens finansdistrikt, på tomta til det som skal bli nytt hovedkvarter for det amerikanske medieselskapet Bloomberg.
På tomta er det også funnet rester av trehus og gater fra romertiden, samt 700 ulike gjenstander, i tillegg til tavlene. Alt dette skal stilles ut på utgravingsstedet høsten 2017, og har fått navnet The London Mithraeum

I Warner Bros Studio Tour i London, har Harry Potter-fans lenge kunne vandre rundt i en “ekte” Harry Potter-verden, blant filmsett, kostymer og rekvisitter.

London has set a new tourism record as over 30 million visitors flocked to the British capital last year, mostly drawn by global sporting events like the Rugby World Cup and blockbuster exhibitions at its museums and galleries, the business-standard.com newspaper can report.
London’s new Mayor Sadiq Khan welcomed the new figures released this week, saying it was “fantastic” that more people than ever before were visiting the city of over 8 million residents.
“London has something for everyone and an appeal that clearly extends across the globe. I’ve pledged to do all I can to support our vital tourism industry so London continues to be a top choice for travellers,” Mayor Khan said.
A record 31.5 million United Kingdom residents and foreign visitors came to London in 2015 — this is an increase of 20 per cent when compared to five years ago, the figures releasedby the Office for National Statistics, International Passenger Survey, showed.
Every year since the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games, there has been an increase in international visitors coming to London.
There were 18.6 million international visits in 2015 compared to 17.4 million in 2014, an increase of 7 per cent.
Separate data from the Great Britain Tourism Survey carried out by UK tourism body VisitEngland showed that Great Britain residents made 12.9 million visits to London last year, which is another new record.
Foreign and UK visitors also spent 15 billion pounds on hotels, restaurants, shopping and attractions – an increase of 35 per cent compared to 2010.
2015 is set to be another momentous year as the UK celebrates 400 years of Shakespeare’s lasting legacy, events to mark Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday and Tate Modern opening a major new extension, which is being hailed as the most important new cultural building in the UK since the British Library in 1998.
Bernard Donoghue, Director of the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions said: “Our palaces, cathedrals, museums, galleries, heritage sites, zoos and gardens are some of the principal reasons why record numbers of visitors come to London.”
Separate research by independent forecaster Oxford Economics predicts that London will welcome 35.6 million UK and international visits to the city by 2020.
The tourism industry is a major contributor to the London economy. Overall the sector contributes more than 36 billion pounds to the capital every year and supports around 700,000 thousand jobs.
“Tourism is a crucial part of the city’s economy and we anticipate a significant increase in the number of UK and international visitors for many years to come,” said Gordon Innes, CEO of London & Partners, the Mayor’s official promotional company for London.

The tourism industry is worth more than £15bn to London’s economy, more than any other region in the United Kingdom, new figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) have shown, City A.M. can report.
Foreign visitors in the British capital on holidays and business, along with day-trippers from the rest of the UK spent more than £36bn in London in 2013 out of a total of £130bn around the country during 2013.
The ONS said this spend created a total contribution to the UK economy, measured in gross value added of £59bn, and expects it to have been worth more than £60bn in 2015.
