Egypt’s Cabinet has approved to allocate a land plot on a space of 744,000 square metres to build a 4,800 MW power plant in the new capital city, the zawya.com website reported.
Egypt unveiled plans for a new administrative capital at an economic development conference in 2015, which was attended by 2,000 delegates from 112 nations, including heads of state, top multinational company executives and directors from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund,
The city will be built east of Cairo, between Cairo and the planned Suez Canal hub north west of the Gulf of Suez. It will include 1.1 million residential units to house five million inhabitants, as well as an administrative district with a presidential palace, ministries, government bodies, and embassies, as well as a financial district.

Egypt-based Talaat Mostafa has been awarded a contract to develop a full-fledged urban project in the country’s new capital city over the next seven years, the constructionweekonline.com website reported.
Talaat Mostafa is an affiliate of Egyptian property developer Arab Company for Projects and Urban Development.
The company bought a plot of land sprawling over a 2.1m2 for $243.1m, according to Egypt-based magazine Amwal Alghad.
About 15 Egyptian companies, including Talaat Mostafa and Sodic, submitted bids in March to develop land for the capital‘s first phase of construction, but no official announcement has yet been made as to the winning bids, stated the report.
Egypt’s plan to construct a new city 45km east of Cairo was announced in March 2015 at a Sharm Al Sheikh summit held to attract foreign investors who pulled back from the country after the 2011 revolt against the government, the report further added.

Den fire tonn tunge og nær ni meter høye statuen av kvartsstein er mer enn 3.000 år gammel.
En mindre kalksteinstatue av farao Seti II, som var barnebarn av Ramses II, ble også funnet i området, som ligger like ved soltempelruinene i Heliopolis, et tempel grunnlagt av Ramses II.
Egypts antikvitetsminister Khaled al-Anani sier til Reuters at funnet er svært betydningsfullt.
Hvis det lykkes å restaurere statuen, skal den etter planen plasseres i Grand Egyptian Museum, som åpnes i 2018.
Ramses den store regjerte i over 60 år, fra 1279 til 1213 f.Kr., og utvidet riket sitt til å rekke helt til dagens Syria i nord, og Sudan i sør.
Utgravingsarbeidene er i gjort i samarbeid mellom arkeologer fra universitetet i Leipzig, og Egypts ministerium for antikviteter.

Egypt’s plan to build a glittering new capital city in the desert was written off by many as nothing more than a dream for a country with a struggling economy.
That dream, however, appears headed for reality after China stepped in to bankroll much of the $45 billion project, World Tribune reported.
China Fortune Land Development announced on Sept. 25 it would invest $20 billion in the project. That announcement followed the pledge of $15 billion from China’s state-owned construction company.
Work has already begun for the as yet unnamed new capital 28 miles south of the current capital Cairo. The new city, located on a 270-square-mile slice of desert owned by the Egyptian army, would be home to some 5 million people.
City planners envision a city with skyscrapers rivaling those in Dubai, green areas comparable to New York City’s Central Park, an international airport larger than London’s Heathrow and an amusement park on the scale of Disney World.
Several hundred apartment buildings already have gone up in the new city, and construction crews are building roads and laying sewage lines.
The target for completion of the new capital is 2021.
Egyptian officials have long sought to relocate the capital away from highly-congested Cairo, in which 30 million people (a third of the country’s population) reside.
‘I can say with total honesty that this project is 20 years overdue,’ said Mohsen Salah El Din, chief executive of the state-owned Arab Contractors, which is involved in the project.
‘We had to find an alternative location to suck this congestion out of Cairo and relocate where the government would be and where the civil servants working in these agencies would live so that they don’t have to commute long distances between home and work,’ he said.
The moving of the capital would not be unprecedented. Turkey, India and Brazil all moved their capitals in the 20th century.
‘Egypt’s administrative capital is not different from Ankara, New Delhi or Brasilia,’ said Zeyad Elkelani, a political science professor at Cairo University.
‘The new capital is an important step to make room for the private sector,’ Elkelani said. ‘The bureaucracy has been choking business in Egypt and the residents of Cairo.’
The government of Egyptian President Abdul Fatah Sisi also announced it was speaking with the Chinese about building a university in the new city.

The first phase of construction of Egypt’s new capital city kicked off on Saturday, announced Minister of Housing Moustafa Madbouly, the egyptianstreets.com website reports.
“Four construction companies have been mandated to implement the infrastructure of the new capital,” said Mr Madbouly according to MENA news agency.
Up to 1.5 million new job opportunities will arise as a result of the construction of the first phase of the new capital city.
Construction of the new city is being carried out by an Egyptian-Chinese alliance which includes Arab Contractors, the Petroleum Projects and Technical Consultations Company, and the China State Construction Engineering Corporation.
However, the Housing Minister said that Egypt will be accepting bids for private companies to take part in the first phase of construction. The Minister also said that Chinese companies will be providing Egyptian contractors with loans to finance the construction of a number of buildings in the new capital city, including 14 new government buildings and a major conference center.
China’s involvement came after Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Cairo to boost bilateral economic and political ties. During his visit, president Xi expressed China’s willingness to support Egypt’s efforts to construct a new capital city.
Plans to build Egypt’s new capital city were temporarily halted in 2015 after disagreements over the cost of the project and how long it would take.
The United Arab Emirates company that had been announced as the developer of the project, Capital City Partners, apparently pulled out of the project despite leading its marketing and launch at the Egyptian Economic Development Conference.
However, according to Egypt’s government, Egypt cancelled the Memorandum of Understanding with the company after a “lack of progress”.
Nevertheless, Egypt’s president Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil el-Sisi was keen to see the project completed and ordered the government sign a new agreement with China State Construction Engineering Corporation. Following the signing of the agreement, President ell-Sisi announced that the first phase of the project would be completed within just two years.
The new capital city promises housing to five million people and will also include a new central business district with hotels, shopping centers, theme parks and more.
However, the $US 45 billion project, which is set to be completed within 12 years, is primarily aimed at transferring ministries, government buildings and foreign embassies from down-town Cairo to the new capital and would be established on the Suez-Cairo-Ain Sokhna road.

Up to 1.5 million new job opportunities will arise as a result of the construction of the first phase of Egypt’s new capital city, revealed Mohsen Salah, the head of Arab Contractors in an interview with Youm7, reports the egyptianstreets.com website.
According to Salah, the majority of the 1.5 million jobs will revolve around construction. Salah said that Egyptian law requires 90 percent of a project’s laborers to be Egyptians, and so the construction will alleviate some unemployment in the country.
The project is being carried out by an Egyptian-Chinese alliance. This alliance includes Arab Contractors, the Petroleum Projects and Technical Consultations Company, and the China State Construction Engineering Corporation.

Egypt is to open a new museum at Cairo International Airport holding 38 pieces from Egypt’s various historical periods in bid to boost transit tourism, telegraph.co.uk reports.
The museum will inside Cairo airport Monday 7 December in an attempt to attract tourists in transit.
The museum will be located inside Terminal 3 – the exhibition will contain 39 pieces, including ones from the Pharonic, Coptic and Islamic eras, according to officials.
“It aims to give visitors a general idea about the Egyptian civilisation, which will make them want to visit other places in Cairo, like the Egyptian museum,” said Yasmin al-Shazle, an assistant to Egypt’s minister for museum antiquities, to The Telegraph.
The Seated Scribe, one of the most famous monuments in Egyptian history, is one of at least 21 items in the exhibition that have come from the world-famous Egyptian museum in central Cairo.
The airport museum was due to open on October 31, the day that Isil miliants brought down a Russian passenger jet as it left Sharm el-Sheikh in the Sinai peninsula, killing all 224 people on board. Britain and Russian have since suspended all flights to the resort.
The disaster dealt a heavy blow to a once-strong Egyptian tourist trade that had already been devastated by the political unrest that followed Egypt’s so-called Arab Spring in 2011.
The number of tourists visiting Egypt has fallen from about 14.7 million in 2010 to around 10 million this year, according to Egyptian tourism ministry figures.
Russia and Britain, two of Egypt’s two main tourist markets, suspended all flights to Sharm el-Sheikh in the wake of the plane crash.
In an interview with The Telegraph on Thursday, Zahi Hawass, a former minister for antiquities and a famed Egyptologist, said he hoped the new airport exhibition would attract much-needed funding to pay for the maintenance of Egypt’s heritage sites.
“The museum will be an opportunity for transit passengers to get an idea about Egypt’s civilisation,” he said. “Egypt’s antiquities are in danger because of a lack of tourism – the maintenance of these sites depends on tourist revenue.”
Cairo airport hosted a similar museum back in 1984, but it was closed a few years later during renovations.
