Sofia, capital city of Bulgaria, has the potential to become a digital market capital in the South Eastern Europe. That is what Sofia Mayor, Yordanka Fandakova, said during a round table discussion organised by the Bulgarian – Nordic Chamber of Commerce, in connection of business perspectives of Nordic companies in Sofia Municipality, reports the FOCUS News Agency.
Mayor Fandakova presented major directions of the municipality’s activities for the development of the capital.
“We have ambitions to develop competitive power of our city. We identified our sectors for development for which we will take special measures,” Fandakova said.
According to the mayor, this will happen jointly with the Investment Agency.
“We rely on the creation of better business environment. We have ambitions to develop the IT sector, pharmacy. We are willing to boost any kind of investment,” she added.

The Bulgarian capital city Sofia will host the 33rd edition of the Holiday & Spa Expo International Tourist Fair, reports the Sofia News Agency Novonite.com
The largest tourist forum in Bulgaria will take place at the Inter Expo Center in Sofia between Thursday and Saturday.
Despite the problems in the tourist sector in 2015, more tour operators, hoteliers and national tourist organisations have confirmed their participation at this year’s edition of the fair.
More than 380 exhibitors, including resorts, tour operators, sector organisations and municipalities both from Bulgaria and abroad, is taking part.
Among the new participants this year is Indonesia. The Hungarian Ministry of Tourism will also participate for the first time.
There will be also representatives from Turkey, Serbia, Macedonia, Morocco, Cuba, Croatia, Russia, Greece, Italy, Spain, Poland, USA, Czech Republic, Portugal and Romania.
The Bulgarian tourism ministry will have its own stall, as will municipalities and spa resorts.
The focus of Sofia’s stand will be on the city’s status as European Capital of Sport in 2018. Several popular Bulgarian sportsmen from the recent past have been invited to give autographs to visitors at the stand.
Plovdiv will have an interactive stall, focusing on its designation as European Capital of Culture in 2019.
Varna, Veliko Tarnovo and Stara Zagora will also have their own stands and present their cultural sites.
Samokov will mark the 120th anniversary of the foundation of the oldest winter resort in Bulgaria – Borovets.
The event is organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Tourism, in partnership with Sofia municipality and tourist organisations.
The organisers will make a charity auction, with the money collected at the auction to be awarded to a student from the professional tourism high School.

Sofia
“Over the past year the capital city Sofia preserved the positive trend in the field of tourism with an average annual growth of 10%,” said Dr Todor Chobanov, Deputy Mayor of Sofia, speaking at a seminar themed Sofia Municipality 2016 Draft Budget held in the mountain resort town of Bansko, reports FOCUS News Agency.
The Deputy Mayor commented further that the figures presented were valid by the end of November and were not final.
“There is an upturn trend and it will be preserved over the next years or even improved,” Mr Chobanov remarked.
“Sofia Municipality will continue working for developing further out tourist and information centres and opening new sites,” he added.
According to official data by the end of October 2015, compared with the same period in 2014, there is a 10.2% growth in the number of tourists registered in the city.
“There is 9% increase of the foreign and 11% increase of the Bulgarian tourists,” Deputy Mayor Todor Chobanov commented further.

I en kommentar til at Norge legger ned de fire ambassadene, sier utenriksminister Børge Brende (H) dette til Vårt Land:

En svak norsk krone har gjort turer til utlandet noe dyrere for nordmenn. Det fins likevel rimelige alternativer, ifølge Forex banks storbyindeks, skriver dagbladet.no
Indeksen viser at nordmenn som vil på storbyreise uten å svi av for store beløp, bør reise østover
På storbyindeksen er det tre byer som utmerker seg som de aller billigste reisemålene: Sofia, Warszawa og Bucuresti.
– Nykommeren Sofia er et spennende weekendreisemål for den kostnadsbevisste. Byen har en rik kulturarv og et prisnivå som er cirka 60 prosent lavere enn det i Norge, sier Kim Olav Svines, filialsjef i Forex bank i en pressemelding.
Også flere andre storbyer øst i Europa er å finne blant de rimelige alternativene på lista fra Forex, nemlig Beograd, Sarajevo, Vilnius, Zagreb, Budapest og Riga.
Storbyindeksen tar utgangspunkt i hva det koster å være på ferie i den aktuelle byen, sammenliknet med Oslo, og tar hensyn til forholdet mellom valutakursene, samt prisnivået for vanlige ferieutgifter.
Å reise til våre populære nabohovedsteder, København og Stockholm, er blitt langt dyrere de siste månedene på grunn av en helt annen valutakurs enn den vi er blitt vant til.
Antakelig er dette med på å rangere København som dyrere enn Oslo i prisoversikten, sammen med byer som London, New York, Los Angeles og San Francisco – sistnevnte desidert dyrest av alle.
Her spiller nok også valutakursen på amerikanske dollar inn, som i skrivende stund er på 8,4988 kroner pr. dollar, ifølge Norges bank.
– Den som vil besøke USA i høst, bør regne med betydelig høyere priser enn for ett år siden. Dollarens kraftige oppgang i forhold til den norske krona har gjort de amerikanske storbyene betydelig dyrere, sier Kim Olav Svines.

“Sofia is a city of the young, the enterprising, and working people – and we should continue developing it as a city that provides opportunities and outlines new perspectives,” said Yordanka Fandakova, current Mayor of the Bulgarian capital Sofia and mayor nominee of mandate-holder Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (CEDB).
Fandakova presented Friday her governing programme for the 2015-2019 period, FOCUS News Agency reported.
“We have started a process of opening administrative data and I am convinced this will help find innovative solutions to a better urban environment and will stimulate initiatives and entrepreneurship in the city”, Ms Fandakova noted.
She expressed her conviction more publicity and control will guarantee greater security and Investments.
“Sofia has this year entered top 30 of the fastest developing world cities [and] we are in the top 3 of European cities in terms of startup companies. We held yesterday a special meeting with young entrepreneurs in the IT sector and Google representatives expressed their company’s interest in opening a training centre in Sofia, which is another step in support of enterprising young People and for development of the IT sector in our city,” the Mayor remarked.
She announced her team was planning the establishment of new spaces for culture and art in abandoned urban spaces and outside the city centre.

Bulgaria kommer ut som det mest prisgunstige ferielandet i sommer, ifølge Forex Bank sin ferieindeks, en liste over de billigste landene å feriere i, skriver VG.
Som vanlig sammenligner Forex prisen på kaffe, øl, mat, 3-stjerners hotell, taxitransport osv – og har India, Romania, Vietnam og Kambodsja som de nest billigste etter Bulgaria på lista.

Bulgarian capital Sofia will soon become the 19th sister city of the Macedonian capital Skopje, after the latter city’s municipal council approved the move, the www.novinite.com website reported.
Skopje Mayor Mr.Koce Trayanovski is quoted by Macedonia’s MIA news agency as saying the move will contribute to boosting bilateral economic cooperation.

Deputy Mayor of Sofia, capital of Bulgaria, Mr.Todor Chobanov, has predicted a 7-10% increase in the number of tourists in the capital in 2015, the Sofia News Agency – www.novonite.com, reported.
Chobanov recently presented the implementation of the Regional Tourism Product Development project in the municipalities of Sofia, Ihtiman and Svoge.
He made clear that the package included routes to over 20 historical, cultural, religious, and natural sites in the three municipalities.
The Deputy Sofia Mayor, as cited by the Bulgarian National Radio, informed that the authorities were working to equip the landmarks with information plates.
Mr.Chobanov said that the campaign for providing for information plates in Bulgarian and English continued in 2015, adding that the plates contained QR codes leading to a tourism portal.
He pointed out that tourist guidebooks for Sofia were being developed by several countries, including in France and Japan.
Ivo Marinov, Director of Municipal Enterprise ‘Tourist Service’, stated that Bulgaria’s capital had registered a 7% increase in tourist numbers in 2014.
Mr.Marinov informed that the Municipal Enterprise ‘Tourist Service’ was launching joint projects with the New Bulgarian University and the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” aimed at boosting development in the sector.
