Nye Oslo lufthavn ble offisielt åpnet av samferdselsminister Ketil Solvik-Olsen (Frp) i dag. Den nye terminalen Pir Nord har blitt 120.000 kvadratmeter større og bidrar til håndtere 32 millioner passasjerer i året, sju millioner flere enn i dag.

Nye Oslo lufthavn er vel så enkel, oversiktlig, effektiv og arkitektonisk attraktiv som den opprinnelige. Utvidelsen representerer en videreutvikling av norsk byggeskikk, med utstrakt bruk av naturmaterialer og med enkle og nøkterne løsninger. Terminalen fremstår fortsatt som ett bygg ved at den nye delen har blitt en integrert del av opprinnelig bygg og har samme karakteristiske takform og volum.

Passasjerene har fått store vrimlearealer både før og etter sikkerhetskontrollen. Sikkerhetskontrollen er utvidet med 12 nye sluser og er samlet i ett område. Passasjerene har kort gangavstand til både innlands- og utlandsfly. Det er lagt vekt på god tilgjengelighet og universell utforming.

Servicetilbudet er utvidet med nye serveringssteder og flere og større butikker. Det har også blitt flere nye, godt plasserte toaletter og stellerom.

Det er ikke bygget en ny terminal, men utvidet den eksisterende ankomst- og avgangshallen. Den vil fortsatt fremstå som ett bygg ved at den nye delen er integrert i den opprinnelige.

Togstasjonen ligger nå sentralt i anlegget, mellom ny og gammel ankomst- og avgangshall, slik at gangavstanden blir kort for togpassasjerene. 

Den utvidede ankomst- og avgangshallen har fått samme karakteristiske takform og volum som den opprinnelige delen, og er på 52 000 m².

Kapasiteten i avgangshallen har økt med 34 nye innsjekkingsskranker, såkalte walkthrough-skranker, som er mer effektive og fleksible. De gir også mindre kø. Tilbygget har også fått et helt nytt bagasjeanlegg.

Arbeidet startet opp sommeren 2012.

Drivers in Nicaragua’s capital Managua look set to benefit from a series of road projects being planned, the worldhighways.com website reported,

The work is intended to cut congestion at peak periods and smooth traffic flow. One of the major projects will be the upgrading of the Juan Pablo II motorway, with the addition of five new flyover sections.

A loan worth US$105 million from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) plus another loan worth $136 million from the European Investment Bank (EIB) will help pay for the project. The Nicaraguan Government will also contribute $21 million for the work.

Other plans for road projects include a16km extension to the road link from Nejapa on the west of the city and Ticuantepe in the south.

The president of Seychelles,  Danny Faure, opened his country”s embassy in Havana today, as part of his official visit to Cuba, the prensa-latina.cu news agency reported.

The Seychelles embassy in Havana is the first in the Latin American and Caribbean region and its opening took place by late 2016.

President Faure also layed a wreath to honor Cuban National Hero, Jose Marti, at the Memorial Monument in the Revolution Square.

He also met with Cuban National Assembly President, Esteban Lazo.

Cuba and Seychelles established diplomatic relations in 1978, and have maintained close cooperation in medical care, especially disease and pest control, as well as in sports, cultural, economic and social spheres.

More than 200 young Seychellois citizens have studied in Cuban universities and other educational centers.

16 Seychellois youth are currently studying in Cuba, where Danny Faure took university studies and graduated as a Bachelor on Political Science in 1985.

Italian national carrier Alitalia will from 31 October launch its first ever scheduled direct flights between Italy and the Maldives, rustourismnews.com reported.

The new three-weekly Rome-Male service will operate for the whole winter season until 24 March 2018. The decision to launch this new service was taken to meet the increasing demand for flights between the two countries, especially during the winter period. 

The new service is the fifth long-haul destination launched by Alitalia since last year – after Santiago de Chile, Mexico City, Beijing and Havana – and represents an important investment which aims to strengthen Alitalia’s presence in key routes for tourism to and from the Indian Ocean.

The new Rome-Male service will depart from Rome Fiumicino airport every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday at 9.45 pm and will land at 11.05 am (local time) on the following day. The return flight from the Maldives capital Male city will depart every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 1.10 pm (local time) and will land in Rome Fiumicino at 7.30 pm.

The new route will be operated with 250-seat Airbus 330 aircraft configured in three classes of service: business, premium economy and economy.

On board the aircraft, Alitalia passengers will avail of newly renovated interiors, in-flight Wi-Fi connectivity for phone calls, Internet and e-mail.

Business class passengers will be able to relax in luxurious Italian-brand Poltrona Frau leather seats that recline fully to a comfortable flatbed position and enjoy award-winning onboard dining featuring the best of Italian regional food and wine.

Alitali’s new ‘dine anytime’ meal service allows customers to decide when they prefer to eat on board. Travelers in premium economy can relax in a quiet cabin with dedicated services. 

Furthermore, Alitalia flies to the Maldives thanks to its codeshare agreement on Etihad Airways flights to Male, via Abu Dhabi.

Cambodian Prime Minister, Hun Sen, says the Angkor Sangkranta-festival should be organised across the country, next year, besides the current venue in Siem Reap,  the ttrweekly.com website reported.

Agence Kampuchea Presse quoted the PM saying  the festival should be held in all provinces and the capital city Phnom Penh to add value to the traditional New Year celebrations and raise awareness of the country’s culture through special events.

The event has been included in the Visit ASEAN@50 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN and to embrace ASEAN as a single tourist destination.

Angkor Sankranta, is held in Siem Reap during the Khmer New Year to build and display Cambodian family  values as a whole and to contribute to maintaining Cambodian traditions, culture, and customs.

Organised by the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia, Angkor Sankranta has drawn more than 1 million local and foreign visitors to experience many of Cambodia’s customs amidst the beautiful ancient Angkor temples.

The festival presents traditional folk dances and games, bullock races, Khmer orchestra recitals, and other performances that correspond to the theme for the year.

Food is a major Angkor Sankranta drawcard. It usually involves the cooking of two four-ton traditional Cambodian cakes, Num Treap Bay, a sticky rice dessert with toasted sesame seeds, and Num Ple Ay, glutinous rice balls filled with palm sugar.

This year, the 5th Angkor Sangkranta in Siem Reap, held 14 to 16 April, attracted more than 1,631,000 million domestic and foreign tourists, a 23% increase, generating an income of about USD95 million, the report said.

Ministry of Tourism has urged tourism operators and related businesses to maintain prices during major festivals particularly Angkor Sankranta to ensure consumers are protected and they gain a positive perception of the Cambodian travel experience.
