Dansk: Tsjekkiet
Engelsk: Czech Republic
Estisk: Tsehhi
Finsk: Tsekki
Fransk: Tchéquie
Gresk; Τσεχία – Tsechia
Italiensk: Cechia
Latvisk: Cehija
Litauisk: Čekija
Nederlandsk: Tsjechië
Polsk: Czechy
Portugisisk: Chéquia – Tchéquia
Rumensk: Cehia
Russisk og bulgarsk: Чехия – Chekhiya
Slovakisk: Cesko
Spansk: Chequia
Svensk: Tjeckien
Tsjekkisk: Ceska
Tyrkisk: Cekya
Tysk: Tschechien
Ukrainsk: Чехія – Chekhiya
Ungarsk: Csehország

Norway has closed its embassy in Lusaka, Zambia, saying it was pointless to keep funding a country which did not show commitment to improving its own management, News24.com can report.

According to The Post, the Ambassador of Norway Mr.Arve Ofstad cited corruption as one of the reasons why his country was moving out of Zambia.

“There was a feeling that the anti-corruption fight has been going very much up and down and we feel that when a country doesn’t make enough use of its own resources. It’s not doing well enough in terms of public resource management, in terms of its distributional policies, then we should leave,” the ambassador was quoted as saying.

Ofstad said that remaining in Zambia was not viable due to the lack of accountability and progress, Lusaka Times reported.

“As of today- we found that it was more necessary to keep our embassies elsewhere. Sorry, but that’s reality,” Ambassador Ofstad said.

Reacting to the development, opposition Rainbow Party national youth chairperson McDonald Mulongoti, said this was a clear indication that Zambian President Edgar Lungu had failed the country.

The embassy formally closed on 7 April.

Norway will also close down its embassies in Harare in Zimbabwe, Sofia in Bulgaria, and Astana in Kazakhstan.

Her er mannen bak stemmen, Phil Sayer. Foto: Ken McKay/ITV/Rex/Shutterstock

“Phil Sayer – voice of reason, radio, and railways. A dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. We are sorry to announce that this service terminates here.”

The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company has opened a 200-room hotel in the Hungarian capital Budapest, according to the TTG Media website.

The hotel is owned by the Al Habtoor Group, based in the United Arab Emirates, and was previously a Le Meridien-managed hotel but will now operate under the Ritz-Carlton flag following a significant refurbishment.

The hotel is in a protected historic building, built in 1914 as the headquarters for an Italian insurance company, and many of the period features have been retained such as elegant statues on the exterior walls and the stunning stained-glass cupola at the heart of the building.

Beneath this, The Kupola Lounge restaurant has been created, offering farmer’s market breakfast or lunch.

The hotel also has a street-side casual restaurant, Deak Street Kitchen, by British firm B3 Designers, complete with ice-cream cart and an outside terrace on Fashion Street.

Located on Elizabeth Square, with views over St Stephens Basilica, the hotel also has a bar with street entrance to attract the local market.

Of the 200 rooms, 30 are suites and the hotel also has a Ritz-Carlton Club Level offering on the top levels – 8th and 9th floors – and a spa and fitness centre with indoor pool and three treatment rooms, will follow soon.

Ritz-Carlton Budapest joins sister European properties such as Abama in Tenerife, Hotel Arts in Barcelona and Ritz-Carlton Vienna, as well as the group’s concept hotel in Wolfsburg within the famed Autostadt and home to a three-Michelin-starred restaurant.

The group is also working on a property in Geneva, Hotel De la Paix, likely to be completed next year.

Also coming soon are hotels in Langkawi in Malaysia, Los Cabos in Mexico, Koh Samui in Thailand, Bermuda, and Turks and Caicos Islands, TTG Media can report.

Vientiane

Thai AirAsia (TAA) looks set to start serving Vientiane as the second city in Laos, which until recently was largely off-limits to low-cost carriers (LCCs), the Bangkok Post can report.

TAA will become the first no-frills airline to operate on the Bangkok-Vientiane route when it launches daily flights to the Laotian capital city in July.

The Vientiane start-up follows TAA’s successful entry to the old royal city, and former capital, of Luang Prabang.

The airline commenced a daily service from Bangkok on March 24, becoming the first LCC to serve the city.

Laos’ Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism estimated there were 4.3 million international tourist arrivals to the landlocked state last year, an increase of 4.88% from 4.1 million in 2014, generating US$670 million in revenue.

Thai nationals represented the majority of those arrivals, followed by Vietnamese and Chinese.

Harare dirtiest city in southern Africa, Zimbabwes’s tourism CEO claims

Harare

Harare, capital of Zimbabwe, is the dirtiest capital city in southern Africa and the city fathers are anti-tourism, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority chief executive officer Karikoga Kaseke told the independent Harare-based Daily News newspaper this week.

Mr Kaseke said coupled with the dirt, most roads leading to high density areas from the city centre are potholed to an extent that motorists cannot negotiate their way.

He said coupled with the dirt, most roads leading to high density areas from the city centre are potholed to an extent that motorists cannot negotiate their way.

“All sides of roads in Harare have been buried in tall grass and you wonder what kind of a council you have that cannot even cut grass along the roads.”

The ZTA chief who was recently awarded the Mega Fest CEO of the Year award had no kind words for the city fathers whom he said have also neglected the newly-commissioned Airport Road in Harare.

He added that the city fathers are always in other countries on business visits but they do not learn anything while there.

“They have been to Singapore which is by far the cleanest but they do not learn. Cities in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Malawi are so clean that you are amazed at the glitz. Kigali for instance is the Singapore of Africa.”

Mr Kaseke said Harare, known as Salisbury until 1980, was once a model city, hence the name Sunshine City.

“In the 1980s Harare used to be clean until 1985 when standards began to fall and in 2000 we had lost it completely.”
