Det anslås at det blir kastet rundt 350.000 tonn spiselig mat hvert i år i Norge. Ellers i verden er også matsvinn en stor utfordring, og nå har danskene bestemt seg for å gjøre noe med all maten som kastet av butikkene. 

I dag 22. februar åpner Folkekirkens Nødhjelp det de kaller «Københavns første sosiale matbutikk», skriver danske TV2.

Butikken ligger i Amagerbrogade 151 på Nørrebro.

Wefood vil selge varer som de større dagligvarehandlene ikke kan. Daggammelt brød og feilpakkede varer er noen av tingene du kan finne til salgs i butikken.

Målet med Wefood er å komme to store utfordringer til livs.

– Grunnprinsippene til Wefood er å gjøre en innsats for det store matsvinnet som eksisterer i Danmark, og samtidig omgjøre noe av dette svinnet til kontanter som vi kan bruke til å hjelpe andre der ute i verden som ikke har mat nok. Det er kjernen, sier sjefen for butikken Per Bjerre til den danske nyhetskanalen.

Butikksjefen sier at at varene i butikken får de fra de større matkjedene og leverandører som av en eller annen grunn ikke får solgt produktene sine.

Blant annet har de allerede fått et stort parti med fastelavensboller som ikke ble solgt 7. februar og en pall med vanlig ris som ble feilmerket som grøtris. 

De sjekker og vurderer alle varer om de er trygge for å spises før de eventuelt havner i butikkhyllene.

– Vi kommer ikke til å selge varer som har passert «siste forbruksdag», men vi kan godt selge varer som har passert «best før». Disse vurderes som spiselige, sier Per Bjerre.

Wefood skriver på sin hjemmeside at deres varer være mellom 30 til 50 prosent billigere enn i vanlige butikker. De vil selge blant annet brød, frukt, grønnsaker, meieriprodukter og andre tørrvarer.

Hvis Wefood i København blir en suksess, vil Folkekirkens Nødhjelp åpne flere slike butikker rundt om i landet, skriver Nettavisen.

Asmara, capital city of Eritrea, has one of the largest collections of modernist architecture in the world, impressive features that bolster the application made on February 1 for it to be listed as a World Heritage site, reports Mail&Guardian.com

Unesco World Heritage Sites are natural and cultural legacies of “outstanding value to humanity” and these approximately 400 buildings and their legacy make Asmara a unique contender for the esteemed status. The fate of the application, submitted by the Asmara Heritage Project (AHP), will be known before July 2017 and, as the Asmara project already meets several of the ten criterion for heritage status, there are high hopes. 

For centuries, Eritrea was influenced by the cultures and religions of different rulers, from the Egyptians and the Ottomans to the Europeans. These all left their traces on the culture and architecture of the country, but it was Italy’s occupation that had the strongest mark. 

Asmara was under Italian occupation from 1889, but it was Benito Mussolini’s invasion of Ethiopia in 1935 that transformed the small town then into Africa’s most modern metropolis. 

Asmara grew to become a capital city, with zoning, sanitation and modern drainage systems and buildings that followed the design principles and architectural styles indebted to European tendencies at the turn of the century. 

It should be noted that there was some was some architectural experimentation and innovation also happening with one of the city’s most striking structures, the Fiat Tagliero service station, for example, being built in 1938. It was a bold tribute to futurism which is an Italian artistic movement that had comparatively little architectural exposure.

The spectrum of the modernist buildings exist in an area of about four square kilometres in the town centre and earned Asmara the title as the “Miami of Africa” in reference to the US city’s famous style which features geometric shapes, curves and soft colours. 

But these plans and structures also had African influence.

Many buildings are in run-down condition requiring an overhaul and modernisation of facilities including sanitation and electricity. An important step in this process will be the recognition of the Asmara architecture as a World Heritage by the UNESCO. 

Through recognition there’s hope that the huge costs of renovation and preservation can be met if Asmara’s architecture can become the cornerstone of gainful tourism in Eritrea. 

Though the city’s striking architecture is the icing on the cake, Eritrea has many attractions to offer; the Red Sea, scenic mountain region, diverse fauna and flora, the historical landmarks of antique cultures of the Axumite Empire, Christian churches and monasteries, the Ottoman urban culture with the port of Massawa and the renovated railway from Massawa to Asmara.

Den syriske TV-kanalen Al-Manar melder at minst 46 mennesker ble drept i terrorangrepene.

Terrorgruppen Den islamske stat (IS) har tatt på seg ansvaret for angrepene i Damaskus i dag, melder Reuters på Twitter.

I januar ble 60 mennesker drept i et IS-angrep i samme område.

All areas in Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur is safe for tourists to visit, Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said today after the Australian government advised it’s citizens heading this way to be on the alert for terrorism, reports the malaymailonline.com website. 
Earlier today, the federal government in Canberra posted a travel advisory on its website that terrorists may be planning attacks in and around Kuala Lumpur.
In response, minister Nazri said the practice of issuing a travel advisory is “not abnormal” and that local authorities are working round the clock and beefing up security amid reports of potential terror attacks.

The year started with breaking records when it comes to Belgrade's Tourism Fair, Serbian Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajic said when opening the 38th International Tourism Fair in Belgrade Thursday, reports the B92 radio station, based in the Serbian capital. 
The fair is set to run through February 21.

This concerns "both in the number of participants and the number of countries our guests come from," the minister explained."Tourism received its rightful place in Serbia, thanks to policies pursued by the government. Last year, we were able to talk about tourism not just for the duration of the fair, but also all year round," Ljajic said.

Tourism Minister Ljajic pointed out that Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic was opening the Tourism Fair the second time, "a proof of the event's significance."
Serbia will invest € 10 million in the Danube this year to arrange the infrastructure and make the river a part of regional tourism, the Serbian prime minister announced as he addressed the event.

"The priorities for this year will be investments in spa infrastructure, roads and mountain resort infrastructure – in particular on Mt. Stara Planina – and sprucing up the city centers and facades in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Nis to make them the best city break destinations," he said.

"We will invest in the Danube by the end of this year and in the beginning of the next, in particular in the sections from Apatin to Beska and from Smederevo to Kladovo," Vucic said, thanking Slovenia – a tourism powerhouse and a partner country of the fair – from which he said Serbia has still much to learn.

Tourism is one of the most significant economic sectors for Belgrade and it registered record revenues last year, Belgrade Mayor Sinisa Mali said, adding that the Serbian capital is among the top ten tourism destinations in the region.

Speaking at the opening of the fair, the mayor noted that Belgrade has been named one of the top three conference tourism destinations.
"The goal is to break the records in the number of guests and tourism revenue this year," mayor Mali said, adding that there were 14 percent more tourists last year compared to 2014.

"There are reasons for optimism. There were 76 hotels in Belgrade in November 2014, while there are 89 today," Mali said, adding that one out of ten employees in Serbia works in the tourism sector.

Magnus, a feature documentary on world chess champion Magnus Carlsen, 25, has been snatched up by multiple buyers at the Berlin International Film Festival, one of several strong sellers from Scandinavian sales outfit TrustNordisk.

Magnus sold to Germany, Austria, Hong Kong, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Macedonia.

The film, which explores Magnus Carlsen's rise from bullied boy to grandmaster, also features chess stars Garry Kasparov from Russia and Viswanathan Anand from India.

Flere hundre mennesker samlet seg i kveld på Østerbro i København for å minnes ofrene for terrorangrepene for ett år siden, skriver nrk.no 

Det ble lagt ned blomster ved kulturhuset Krudttønden, før folk gikk mot synagogen. Underveis ble det tent 1800 lykter.

Tidligere på dagen ble det kunngjort at det skal settes opp en minneplate i Folketinget for å hedre de to terrorofrene.

Den danske filmskaperen og dokumentaristen Finn Nørgaard ble skutt og drept da en mann angrep kultursenteret Krudttønden i Servidslevvej på Østerbro, der et seminar om ytringsfrihet gikk av stabelen. Blant gjestene var den mye omtalte svenske tegneren Lars Vilks. Flere politimenn ble skadet i angrepet.

Senere samme dag ble den 37 år gamle vaktmannen Dan Uzan skutt og drept under et angrep mot den jødiske synagogen i Krystallgade ved Nørreport, der 80 gjester var samlet for å feire bar mitzvah, jødisk konfirmasjon, for en ung jente.

Gjerningsmannen, den 22 år gamle IS-sympatisøren Omer el-Hussein, født i Danmark, ble senere skutt og drept under en skuddveksling med politiet.
