Ljubljana

EasyJet has announced that there will be a new route from London Gatwick to the Slovenian capital Ljubljana starting on 5 December 2016, incentivetravel.co.uk reported.

Slovenia is the popular destination for winter sport lovers, with resorts from 30 minutes drive away from the airport, with alpine skiing on the slopes of Vogel and Krvavec among the popular spots.

In Kranjska Gora, visitors can on an ice climbing tour accompanied by a mountain guide, or participate in outdoor survival courses.

More family friendly sporting options include sledding in Bled on ski slopes or toboggan tracks in Kranjska Gora.

Visitors could also try snowshoeing across Pokljuka plain on some of Europe’s most breathtaking landscapes.

Arriving just as the festive season gets underway, visitors taking the new flights will be welcomed by lights illuminating the city centre, filled with Christmas markets adorned with ornaments, and vendors selling local, authentic crafts and specialties and scents of roasted chestnut and mulled wine filling the air.

2016 has proved to be a particularly exciting year for Ljubljana, which has enjoyed the title of European Green Capital 2016 and which this week hosted the Global Green Destinations Day Conference.

The European Green Capital award has created a buzz around the city’s green spaces and the countless hidden gardens in the heart of the city centre.

Already known for the beautiful architecture of Joze Plečnik, the laid-back, friendly approach of the locals and authentic Slovenian cuisine, Ljubljana’s sustainable approach to everything from reducing traffic through increased pedestrianisation to the preservation of important green landmarks such as one of Europe’s oldest botanical gardens.

Mladen Ljubisic, Head of Slovenian Tourist Board for UK & Ireland, commented: “We are delighted that EasyJet has decided to open Gatwick flights to Ljubljana. Slovenia presents one of the fastest growing markets for UK travellers and EasyJet has made a right decision to open Gatwick-Ljubljana connection as well. It presents a perfect opportunity for travellers to experience all that Slovenia has to offer, and it is equally fantastic news for the MICE industry.”
