In 2014, Lisbon had its best year ever in 2014 in terms of tourism. The number of hotel rooms in Lisbon increased by 3.2% between 2013 and 2014, from 17,310 to 17,870 rooms.
In fact, Lisbon was the European city to have the highest tourism growth in 2014, 15.4%, and reaching 11.53 million overnight stays. 20 new hotels are slated to open in Lisbon in 2015, which will bring 1,600 new hotel rooms into the market, reports ftnnews.com
Openings are planned in the first quarter for the Sana Evolution (in Saldanha), Porto Bay Liberdade, Santiago de Alfama Boutique Hotel, Bessa Hotel Lisboa, My Story Hotel Rossio, Fénix Music, Skyna Hotel Lisboa and Lux Lisboa Park.
Throughout the year hotels openings will also include the Turim Saldanha, Vincci Selección, Riverside Alfama, Indigo Lisbon Old Town, Lux Hotel by Turim, Memmo Príncipe Real, Turim Boulevard, Eurostars, Cais de Santarém, Hotel Pestana in the Baixa and a Pousada de Portugal in the Terreiro do Paço square.
Among the top projects for 2015, there is the ongoing redevelopment of the city’s waterfront, with the start of new work on the Cais do Sodré square and Campo das Cebolas, complementing the work already done in Cais do Sodré and Ribeira das Naus.
