The honorary consulate of Georgia in Bristol has been opened by the Georgian Ambassador in the United Kingdom, Mr Tamar Beruchashvili (left), and the Lord Mayor of Bristol, councillor Lesley Alexander (right), the agenda.ge website reported.

Alderman Derek Pickup, who has served as the chairman of the Bristol-Tbilisi Association, has been appointed the first honorary consul of Georgia in the United Kingdom.

Bristol and the Georgian capital Tbilisi have been twin cities since 1988.

The opening day of the consulate fell on the same day as the 30th anniversary of Bristol -Tbilisi friendship and the new consulate hosted more than 100 guests to mark the date.

During the visit to Bristol, ambassador Beruchashvili met with local entrepreneurs and briefed them about Georgia’s attractive investment environment, the Georgia Foreign Ministry said
