The Prime Minister of Tuvalu says nearly half of the population has been displaced by Cyclone Pam, Radio New Zealand International reported.
Prime Minister Enele Sopoaga said most people living on the outer islands had been severely affected, with houses and crops being washed away and at least one island being entirely flooded.
Tuvalu has a population of 9876 at the last census in 2013.
He said there was a health and safety concern following some cemeteries being destroyed.
“Forty five percent of the population of Tuvalu, most of whom are on the outer islands, have been affected, badly, severly affected. We are worried about the aftermath in terms of hygeine and supplies of essential materials like food, medicine and water”.
Prime Minister Sopoaga said government boats would travel to the outer islands to assess the extent of the damage and hand out emergency supplies.

The Global Sustainable Tourism Review (GSTR), by QualityCoast, has listed the Azores as one of the most sustainable green destinations in the world and the leading 2014 European green tourism destination. The Azoresranked highest with a final score of 8,9 over a total of 10 points the highest global sustainability score by GSTR.
The top of the list also include other Portuguese destinations, namely as Cascais-Estoril, Lagos and the West Region (Oeste) in mainland Portugal. QualityCoast is the largest international certification program for sustainable tourism destinations, the www.portuguese-american-journal.com reported.
The Sustainable Destinations Global Top 100 initiative, launched this year for the first time, aims to celebrate the management efforts of the most sustainable destinations on Earth. The list is the result of open calls in the social media, followed by a selection by 30 international tourism sustainability experts.
“The Global Top 100 aims to recognize tourism destinations that have worked hard to make a difference and take sustainability seriously”, said Albert Salman program director. “Nevertheless, no destination is sustainable for the full 100%”
“This is why the Top 100 present ratings of overall destination sustainability according to the only available global assessment tool for this purpose: the Global Sustainable Tourism Review, GSTR”, he said.
“These 100 destinations stand out for making meaningful and measurable progress in their individual journeys toward greater sustainability”, said Durband CEO of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.

The Azores is leading the European green tourism hit list since 2012. In 2013, QualityCoast had named the Azores the most sustainable tourism destination ahead of more than 1,000 other coastal and island locations worldwide.
Destinations are evaluated by an international team that used more than 100 indicators comprising all aspects of sustainability, including nature, environment, local identity and culture, tourism and business, local community and security.

The “QualityCoast” awards are supported by the European Commission, the largest international independent certification program for sustainable tourism destinations. Since 2007, more than 140 destinations in 23 countries, including coastal towns, tourist resorts and islands, have been selected for a “QualityCoast” award.

Det viser tall fra Association of Leading Visitor Attractions – ALVA.
Museet hadde nær 6,7 millioner besøkende i fjor, viser tallene.
If Kampala Capital City Authority Executive Director, Jennifer Musisi’s plans are not derailed, Uganda’s capital city could get a passenger train service as early as end of March. The passenger commuter train service is being implemented by the Rift Valley Railways (RVR); a private-sector consortium which runs the Kenya-Uganda Railway, the www.independent.co.ug website reported.
In early March, Musisi was in the Kenyan capital Nairobi for meetings with officials of RVR.
Musisi told journalists that the commuter train service is part of an integrated transport master plan to reduce pressure on roads and highways leading into Kampala city. “Uganda has waited a long time for this experience,” she reportedly said.
Earlier on Feb.5, Musisi had led officials from KCCA, the Ministry of Finance, RVR, and journalists on a test run of the route – a 12km stretch from the main railway station in the City Business District to Namanve; an outlying derelict former rail shunting station in an emerging Industrial Park to the east of the city.
The Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Tourism will conduct service quality inspections in Baku hotels, the abc.az website reported.
According to the Ministry, service quality inspections on the threshold of the Baku European Games will be conducted in April.
“Such inspections aim to check if the services meet the state standards, whether the shortcomings were corrected and services improved”, the Ministry says.
The Ministry also informs that last inspections in Baku hotels were conducted in October 2014.
