Athens ranks among the most popular Christmas holiday destinations in Europe, with inexpensive accommodation to boot, according to data released by international hotel price comparison website Trivago, ekathimerini.com reported.

Athens was 24th out of the 50 most popular European destinations as shown by searches made around the world for the Christmas period. It also ranked joint fourth with Budapest among the most attractive cities in financial terms for hotel accommodation, as the average online rate per night for the period in the Greek capital comes to 74 euros for a double room. Athens was beaten by Valencia (66 euros/night), Krakow (68 euros) and Malaga (73 euros).

The average stay in Athens appears to be six days, with the capital being the only Greek city in the top 50, while Spain has 13 entries.

Meanwhile Athens International Airport and Marketing Greece has presented their new campaign to promote Athens as a city break destination, titled “Speak Athenian, Be an Athenian.”

Iosif Parsalis, general manager of Marketing Greece, stated that the new integrated digital campaign, which uses a mix of Greek and English terms with Greek and Latin characters, is aimed at the 24-40 age group. He added that greater emphasis has been placed on attracting visitors from specific countries, among them Germany, France, Great Britain and the US.

AIA’s communication and marketing director, Ioanna Papadopoulou, noted that part of the campaign will involve a series of themed events both at the airport and in the city itself in cooperation with tourism entities and other bodies.

Siam Park, Tenerife.

The Savoy, London

Kjøpet omfatter 155 ikoniske luksushotell og resorter, blant annet Raffles Hotel i Singapore, The Savoy i London, The Plaza Hotel i New York samt Le Royal Monceau – Raffles i Paris.

CZECH IT OUT! DISCOVERING HUNDREDS OF YEARS OF JEWISH HISTORY IN PRAGUE

Prague

Czech Republic, Land of Stories – is the slogan used by the Czech tourism board. British online newspaper Jewish News (jewishnews.co.uk) has checked out the Jewish history in Prague and the rest of the Czech Republic.

For the most part, Jews here prospered from their arrival in 995, right up until the end of the 19th century.

But rising anti-Semitism and the Second World War all but eradicated what was one of the largest and most vibrant Jewish communities in the world. From a high point of 153 Jewish communities in the 1930s, the Czech Republic is now home to just 10.

Jewish News first stop was in the capital, Prague, which nowadays has no more than 1,800 Jews. Once home to a thriving Jewish Quarter, all that remains is the town hall, six synagogues and the Old Jewish Cemetery, in which can be seen 12,000 tombstones.

Preserving the buildings, the artefacts inside them, and promotion of the area is down to the city’s Jewish Museum.

Housing around 100,000 books and tens of thousands of photographs and documents, it depicts the city’s once rich and prosperous Jewish life.

The Hormuz Grand Hotel in Muscat, capital of Oman, becomes the latest addition to Carlson Rezidor’s Quorvus Collection, a new generation of expertly curated luxury hotels inspired by the lifestyle and sensibilities of the contemporary global traveller, zawaya.com reports.

Ideally located in one of Oman’s most desirable areas, the Hormuz Grand is close to the major government and academic institutions, the best shopping and golf, just 4km away from Muscat International Airport and 20km away from the center of the capital city, Muscat.

Elegant and unassuming from the outside, the stunning interior is a blend of modern Asian and Middle Eastern design, with a decorative pool and water courtyard – both open to the stars – as a soothing centerpiece.

“Our phenomenal growth in the Middle East region is second to none. The addition of the Hormuz Grand Hotel, Muscat – part of our luxury brand Quorvus Collection – is showcasing the best of our Middle Eastern heritage and future ambitions,” said Mark Willis, Area Vice President, Middle East and Turkey, The Rezidor Hotel Group.

“Hormuz Grand Hotel, Muscat joins the meticulously designed Symphony Style Hotel Kuwait and G&V Royal Mile Hotel Edinburgh – giving us a solid platform to develop this collection of carefully selected properties further in the Middle East & Turkey.”

The 231 elegant guest rooms and suites offer an excitingly practical, contemporary twist on traditional luxury. And the excellent dining options make a memorable contribution to the superlative five-star hotel experience.

Straits offers international all-day dining with buffet style service at breakfast and lunch – followed by an outstanding la carte menu for dinner. With impressively high ceilings and marble pillars, Straits is stylishly airy, with a large indoor and alfresco seating area – overlooking the drama of the two open kitchens.

Serving specialty north Indian cuisine, Qureshi Bab Al Hind is located at the lobby level, with a richly textured design and floor to ceiling windows overlooking the water courtyard: the theatre of the display kitchen is also visible through a glass wall.

Bringing a real buzz to the heart of the hotel, The Hub is a lobby level lounge serving tea, coffee, drinks and irresistible patisserie from the in-house bakery. And Oman’s coolest fun lovers now veer towards The Vault as the hottest place to relax and unwind, with top-ranking DJs at weekends, coverage of major sporting events and great food.

The hotel will soon add its third restaurant with seafood specialties. Its modern conference rooms features a 390 square meter ballroom, a pool, an outstanding spa managed by ISpa (Thailand) and a gym.

“We are delighted to bring the Hormuz Grand Hotel, Muscat into the Quorvus Collection, and introduce our own suite of hallmark and essential services tailored for the travelers looking for individual luxury,” said Chris Pike, General Manager of the Hormuz Grand Hotel, Muscat.

“This hotel has a very distinct and priceless local identity. With our global network, we hope to attract world travelers to this magnificent property and showcase the wonderful treasure of the gulf.”

Launched in 2014, the Quorvus Collection unites individual and inspiring luxury properties offering distinguished experiences. Different in scale, architecture, ambiance and design, the portfolio aims to include historic landmarks, contemporary residences, classic boutiques and urban retreats. All hotels offer a range of essential services perfectly tailored to the guests’ needs. The signature “Q24” concept comprises six core lifestyle elements – wellness, replenishment and style encompassing the body; and inspiration, entertainment and connectivity to meet the needs of the mind.
