Over 11,000 tourists from Ukraine visited Greece in 2016.

World Travel Awards er an av de mest anerkjente prisene i reiselivsbransjen. Årets prisutdeling for de europeiske prisvinnerne fant sted i St. Petersburg i Russland.

Grand Penthouse Terrace Suite ble kåret til «Best Suite» i Norge for fjerde gang. Suiten ligger i toppetasjen, med en privat terrasse og panoramautsikt over byen, Slottet og Oslofjorden, skriver nettstedet.

– Jeg er veldig stolt av hele teamet på Grand Hotel Oslo. Utmerkelsen er en flott anerkjennelse av deres daglig arbeid med å skape unike gjesteopplevelser på Grand. Vi vil også takke alle som stemte på oss, sier Fredrikke Næss, administrerende direktør ved Grand Hotel.

Hotellet har gjennomgått en større renovering de siste årene. Også resepsjonen, lobbybaren Othilia, restauranten Palmen og takterrassebaren Eight Rooftop Bar er fornyet, skriver Travelnews.

Finnair starter i mai 2018 nye ruter fra Bergen og Tromsø til Helsinki. De nye rutene opprettes i samarbeid med Widerøe, skriver NTB/Nettavisen.

Det finske flyselskapet har som ambisjon å åpne opp Asia for nordmenn.

– Nordmenn elsker å reise til Asia, og nå får våre norske kunder nye sømløse forbindelser til de 19 byene vi flyr til i Asia via Helsinki, skriver Robert Lönnblad, sjef for Finnair i Skandinavia, i en pressemelding.

Lönnblad sier at de merker begeistringen går begge veier – nordmenn er interesserte i å fly til Asia, og asiaterne er interesserte i å fly til Norge. Finnar har en uttalt vekststrategi om å knytte stadig flere destinasjoner inn i sitt Asia-nettverk.

Det blir satt opp daglige flygninger fra Bergen til Helsinki, og én ukentlig mellom Tromsø og Helsinki. Rutene flys med Widerøes fly, mens salg av billetter og markedsføring gjøres av Finnair.

Mastercard Global Destination Cities Index puts the federal capital of the United Arab Emirates first in the region in terms of fastest-growing tourism and fourth globally, the thenational.ae newspaper reported.

Abu Dhabi has been named the fastest-growing “destination city of tomorrow” in the region by a global index.

Mastercard Global Destination Cities Index showed that Abu Dhabi had experienced tourism growth of 18.9 per cent between 2009 and last year and it was the fourth fastest growing city globally, behind Osaka, Changdu and Colombo.

Overall, Dubai was ranked fourth on the index, which is based on the number of international overnight visitors, with 14.87 million visitors, behind Bangkok (19.41m), London (19.06m) and Paris (15.45m).

Growth in Dubai was forecast to be 7.7 per cent this year.

“Being recognised as the fastest-growing destination city in the region is an incredible achievement. With the recently announced launch of the much-anticipated Louvre Abu Dhabi and cultural exhibitions such as Hajj: Memories of a Journey, the capital’s reputation as a destination of distinction continues to grow, building on the unique experiences and cultural heritage offered,” said Saif Saeed Ghobash, director general, of the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism.

“Last year was a record-breaking year for Abu Dhabi, welcoming 4.4 million visitors. Our year-on-year growth rate has been strong and, by the end of 2017, we are looking to reach our target of over 4.9 million visitors to the emirate.”

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has been appointed by global real estate investment firm Qatari Diar to manage a new, ultra-luxury hotel located on Grosvenor Square in London’s prestigious Mayfair district, the Hotel News Resource website reported. 

Set to be housed in the iconic building which currently serves as the U.S. Embassy, the hotel will be the second Rosewood property in London and will open as the sixth property in Europe. The announcement comes on the heels of the enormously successful reopening of Hôtel de Crillon, a Rosewood Hotel in Paris, solidifying Rosewood’s expanding presence in Europe and around the globe.

The property will offer 137 spacious guestrooms and suites, as well as a variety of dining and entertainment spaces, including five gourmet restaurants. The property will also feature a signature spa, which will provide guests with a luxurious retreat from the bustling streets of London, as well as six flagship retail spaces and a grand ballroom with space for up to 1,000 guests.

Esteemed British architect, Sir David Chipperfield, has been selected to oversee the design process, which will reimagine the mid-20th century listed building through elegant interior upgrades while still maintaining the integrity of the property through the preservation of the building’s original, Grade II listed façade.

The new London hotel will join a regional network of distinctive Rosewood properties in Europe, including Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco, Rosewood London and Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel. Additionally, Rosewood Edinburgh and Rosewood Vienna are slated to open in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

I Dubai blir det i oktober åpnet et helt nytt fiskemarked i bydelen Deira, skriver Se og Hør. Her kommer det hele 440 boder som selger fersk fisk, en frukt- og grøntavdeling med 140 boder – blant dem en hel avdeling med dadler, og det blir også en kjøtt og fjærkreavdeling med 140 boder.

I tillegg kommer flere butikker og kafeer beliggende på sjøsiden.

Turoperatøren Ving gjennomførte nylig en undersøkelse der reiseentusiaster fra hele Norge svarte på spørsmål om Kanariøyene. Vings reisepanel ble startet opp i 2012 og består i dag av vel 64 000 personer. Nesten 12 000 personer svarte på undersøkelsen, skriver travelnews.no

I 2016 reiste over 400.000 nordmenn til Kanariøyene. Selv sender Ving over 250 000 nordmenn dit i vinter.

– Hele 85 prosent av de som deltok i undersøkelsen hadde vært på Kanariøyene tidligere, og 45 prosent hadde vært der seks ganger eller mer, forteller markeds- og kommunikasjonsdirektør i Ving, Tonje Løkaas Fossum.

Tokyo

Norwegian vil ha direkteruter mellom Norge og Tokyo, men en gammel avtale mellom de skandinaviske landene og Russland setter en stopper for planene, skriver VG.

Ifølge en avtale fra 1956 mellom de skandinaviske landene og det daværende Sovjet-Unionen så skal SAS ha enerett på å benytte luftrommet over Sibir på ruter til Asia.

Men denne høsten skal norske og russiske myndigheter ha samtaler om saken, ifølge NRK.

Statssekretær i Samferdselsdepartementet, Tom Cato Karlsen (Frp), sier at planen er å fortsette samtalene med russiske myndigheter, etter de første samtalene sommeren 2016.
