Regjeringen i Ecuador skal være nær ved å trekke tilbake beskyttelsen av WikiLeaks-gründer Julian Assange (47), og kaste han ut av landets ambassade i London, hvor han har hatt tilhold de siste seks årene. Det skriver journalisten Glenn Greenwald på sin nettside The Intercept, melder NRK.

Ambassaden er sterkt bevoktet av britisk politi døgnet rundt, Assange risikerer å bli pågrepet hvis han forlater ambassaden.

Det er til tider svært folksomt utenfor ambassaden, av Assanges tilhengere, kritikere, media, turister, og andre skuelystne.

Australske Julian Assange er begjært utlevert til Sverige hvor han er siktet i en voldtektssak. Assange frykter at Sverige vil utlevere ham til USA.

Det er invitert 2.640 personer fra det britiske folket når paret gifter seg. Ifølge en talsmann ønsker brudeparet at også folket skal kjenne at de tar del i feiringen.

Alderman Derek Pickup, who has served as the chairman of the Bristol-Tbilisi Association, has been appointed the first honorary consul of Georgia in the United Kingdom.

Bristol and the Georgian capital Tbilisi have been twin cities since 1988.

The opening day of the consulate fell on the same day as the 30th anniversary of Bristol -Tbilisi friendship and the new consulate hosted more than 100 guests to mark the date.

Superkupp innen sport og friluft du gjør nå

Den britiske 10-pundseddelen blir snart verdiløs. Britene må nå finne fram gamle sedler og bruke over 23 milliarder kroner innen 1.mars, melder NTB/ VG.no

Til sammen er det 218.820.000 gamle 10-pundsedler, som hver har en verdi på nær 110 norske kroner, i omløp. 

Dette tilsvarer 23,8 milliarder kroner. Sedlene kan brukes frem til 1. mars, men etter det er butikker og banker ikke forpliktet til å imot dem.

A South Sudanese diplomat says his country’s embassy in London has been closed due to a failure to pay rent since August last year, the Voice of America website reported.
The embassy is located in Old Marylebone Road in Marylebone.

A spokesman for South Sudan’s Foreign Ministry insisted the government has not received official notice from its landlord in London.

“We are trying to our best so that we are able to pay the arrears that are needed by the landlords,” Mawien Makol Arik told Voice of America, and acknowledged the embassy is experiencing financial probelms.

The government of South Sudan announced in 2015 it would temporarily close several embassies as the war-torn country’s economy deteriorated.

South Sudan keeps about 24 embassies and missions in Africa, Middle East, Europe, Asia and America.

In June 2017 South Sudan recalled its top diplomats from seven countries, but said the recalls have nothing to do with the country’s economic crisis.

The crisis, sparked by four years of civil war, has left South Sudan’s government strapped for cash, and most of the country’s envoys around the world have not received salaries for up to one year, Voice of America reports.

South Sudan’s diplomats in Washington DC were finally paid one month’s salary this month.
