Det islandske lavprisselskapet Wow Air erklærte seg i dag konkurs, melder flere internasjonale og norske medier.
Selskapet, med base ved Keflavík internasjonale lufthavn utenfor Reykjavik, og som siden 2012 har spesialisert seg på billige flygninger mellom Nord-Europa og en rekke destinasjoner i USA, har stått for en tredel av alle passasjerer til Island, har slitt i flere år, skriver ABC Nyheter.
Torsdag ble alle av selskapets 11 fly satt på bakken, ett av dem på Kastrup i København. Mange av selskapets passasjerer er nå strandet.
Wow Air har fortsatt billettsalget helt frem til det siste.
Selskapet ble startet i 2011, hadde 1000 ansatte og 58 ruter.

I undersøkelsen ble det blant annet sett på antall kvadratmeter grøntområder per innbygger, og hvor bærekraftig matproduksjonen er.

Musikkfestivalen Sonar Reykjavik trekker til seg både internasjonale og lokale DJ-er og musikere, og hyller elektronikamusikken, skriver Se og Hør.
Festivalen går av stabelen i Harpa Concert Hall 16.-17.mars, men har også en underjordisk nattklubb for anledningen, under konserthallens parkeringsplass.

I år markerer Icelandair sitt 80-års jubileum, og feiringen skjer på vulkansk vis – selvsagt, skriver travelnews.no
Et Boeing 757-200 er omgjort til en flyvende utgave av ikke bare Islands, men Europas største isbre Vatnajökull.
Icelandairs fly er alle oppkalt etter islandske vulkaner, og i 2015 ble Hekla Aurora skapt etter inspirasjon fra vulkanen Hekla og nordlyset. Det er samme kunstnere som står bak forvandlingen til Vatnajökull og prosessen er ganske usedvanlig og komplisert, da dekoreringen er gjort for hånd, skriver nettstedet.
25 personer har brukt over tre uker og 195 liter maling for å gjengi isbreen, 1.062 liter i alt for å dekke hele flyet. Kabinen holdes i is- og vannfarger, kabinlyset er i blått og nakkestøtter, matvogner og servietter er dekorert for å gi en så autentisk opplevelse som mulig.

Icelandair oppretter helårsrute mellom Reykjavik og Vancouver i British Columbia, Canada. Siden mai 2014 har dette vært en sesongrute. Nå blir Vancouver den 10. helårsruten som Icelandair flyr til i Nord-Amerika, skriver travelnews.no
Flyselskapet har to ukentlige flyvninger til Vancouver på den kanadiske Stillehavskysten på vinteren og tre ukentlige flyvninger på sommeren.
Icelandair tilbyr stopover på Island i opptil 7 døgn på vei over Atlanteren, uten tillegg i flyprisen. Dette gir mulighet for å oppleve to kontinenter på en reise.
Icelandair har 46 destinasjoner hvorav 18 er i Nord-Amerika – 13 i USA og 5 i Canada. Nye amerikanske destinasjoner i 2017 er Philadelphia (mai 2017) og Tampa Bay (september 2017). Forventet passasjertall i år er 4 millioner, en stigning på 450 000 i forhold til 2016.

The Reykjavík Tourist Information Centre has opened at City Hall, moving from its previous location at Aðalstræti 2, the Reykjavik Grapevine website reported.

Reykjavik city officials point out that some 475,000 tourists visited the Information Centre last year, marking a 28% increase from the year before. It is believed that the new location will prove a boon to the area.
“I am truly pleased to open the Tourist Information Centre in City Hall, which is one of the most recognisable landmarks in the city and one of the places that tourists visit during their stay,” Áshildur Bragadóttir, director of Visit Reykjavík, said in a press statement.
“This beautiful building is in the heart of central Reykjavík, and the new location of the Information Centre is sure to be an added stimulus to the surrounding area. There are exciting times ahead in tourism and I am looking forward to addressing them in collaboration with the company Guide to Iceland.”
Reykjavík City Hall is located next to Tjörnin pond in downtown Reykjavík, and the Tourist Information Centre is open every day except Christmas Day.
