Turoperatøren TUI har i år med Ibiza på sommerprogrammet, og tilbyr flere hoteller over hele øya, både i de rolige områdene og nærmere sentrum, skriver Travelnews.no 

TUI tilbyr også sitt eget konsepthotell Sensatori, som ligger i den øvre enden av markedet.

– Ibiza har lenge vært et yndet feriemål for nordmenn. Her finner man både perfekte strender, turkis hav og vakker natur i kombinasjon med et yrende by- og uteliv. Ibiza tiltrekker seg reisende fra hele verden og har en helt egen atmosfære, sier Nora Aspengren Kommunikasjonsansvarlig i TUI, til nettstedet.

Det blir avganger fra Oslo Lufthavn en gang i uken fra mai til oktober.. Også reisene til Ibiza har fleksible reiselengder.

Ibiza er nesten tom for vann, sier øyas turistsjef Vincente Torres i et intervju med radiokanalen Pulse Radio. Han påpeker også at det er begrenset kapasitet på veiene og på medisinsk behandling, skriver dagbladet.no

Turistsjefen mener Ibiza ikke kan ta imot flere turister nå, siden kapasiteten er sprengt.

– Vi har nesten 100 000 lovlige turistsenger og 130 000 innbyggere. Øya er bare 571 kvadratkilometer stor. Vi kan ikke håndtere flere turister som bruker våre ressurser, vann og miljø, sier Vicente Torres til radiokanalen.

The Balearic Islands consider banning tourist cars to avoid summer gridlock. Tourism officials say they may stop people arriving in smaller islands by car as the islands prepares to receive a record number of visitors this summer, The Guardian newspaper reports.

Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, which have a population of 1.1 million, are expecting 13.5 million visitors this season.

Traffic jams are not the only problem. local officials and environmentalists say the region are close to the point where they will have neither the water nor the energy resources to meet demand.

Menorca, for example, was declared a biosphere reserve in 1993 and environmentalists say it cannot sustain more than 200,000 visitors on any one day, in addition to its 86,000 permanent residents. However, it exceeded that number on more than one occasion last year.

And, cruise ships are adding to the pressure. On a single day recently, 22,000 passengers disembarked from cruise ships in Palma de Mallorca, the Mallorcan capital.

More than 500 cruises are expected to dock in Palma this year, carrying 1.5 million passengers.

The airport on Mallorca is also struggling to cope. Designed to deal with a maximum of 66 flights an hour, officials say in the high season this may rise to as many as 100 flights.

“Tourists go home. Refugees welcome” is just one of the slogans to have appeared this week daubed on the walls of the historic centre of Palma, the capital of Mallorca, The Local.es online newspaper can report.

“Stop Guiris” and “Tourism is destroying our city” are two of the others in a recent spate of graffiti that is angering visitors and local residents alike.

The anti-tourism phrases suggest a growing malaise at the number of holidaymakers crowding into Palma de Mallorca as residents complain that tourism is destroying local neighbourhoods.

Residents of La Seu, the historic old quarter of narrow cobbled streets around the city’s Gothic cathedral, bemoan the fact that on top of having to suffer inundations of tourists, they now also have their neighbourhood blighted by graffiti.

“Not only have we do deal with the burden of tourist saturation which is bringing the neighbourhood to near collapse, but we are now held to be responsible for removing the anti-tourist slogans from our walls,” said a written complaint from the residents association to City Hall.

“The council has ignored the problem, claiming that residents should be responsible for cleaning and repainting walls. They will only deal with graffiti if it is on council property,” it continued.
