Trevi fountain
Rome wants visiting tourists to help preserve the Italian capital city’s eroding monuments for the next millennium and beyond, the Weather.com website can report.
Rome is seeking out all the possible sponsors it can find to fund the restoration and maintenance its hundreds of historic fountains, statues, archaeological sites and palazzos.
The city has repeatedly been short of funds to properly take care of its various landmarks, which represent a two-millennia legacy of art and history.
This week, city officials thanked corporate sponsors of ambitious restoration projects taking place.
Among their donors are luxury goods companies such as Fendi, which has put up money to restore several famed fountains, including a tourist favorite, Trevi, and Bulgari, which is sponsoring the restoration of the Spanish Steps in the heart of Rome’s most chic shopping district.
