The world famous landmark “The Little Mermaid” in Copenhagen has been exposed to vandalism. This is reported by the police in the Danish capital according to the BT.dk newspaper, quoted by the VG.no newspaper in Oslo.
Police say unknown perpetrators have written “Free Hong Kong” on the stone the mermaid is sitting on.
It is not the first time the bronze statue has been subjected to vandalism. In 1961, it was first exposed to vandalism, when someone painted the body of the mermaid red.
The same thing has happened a number of times, including in 2007 and in 2017, the VG website reported.
In 1984, the mermaid lost one arm, and in 1998 it lost its head. In 2003, “The Little Mermaid” was cut loose from the rock on which it sits.
