Cathay Pacific kjøper lavprisselskapet HK Express

Flyselskapet Cathay Pacific, med hovedkontor i Hongkong, kjøper lavprisselskapet HK Express for 5,4 milliarder kroner.
HK Express, som også hører hjemme i Hongkong, skal fortsette å drive under eget navn og med samme profil. Ifølge Cathay Pacific skal kjøpet gjennomføres i løpet av året.

Mangel på skiltgjenkjenningsteknologi skaper mange trafikkfarlige situasjoner på en rekke ferjeleier langs hele kysten, skriver NRK.no
Årsaken er at autopass på ferje ikke har lov til å bruke skiltgjenkjenning på bilskiltene slik det er på vanlige bomstasjoner.

More cruise tourists to Norway

Over the past seven years, the number of cruise passengers arriving at Norwegian ports has increased by almost 1.5 million, which corresponds to about 56 per cent.
In 2012, there were 2.5 million cruise passengers. This year, almost 4 million are expected, according to the NTB news agency.

Fewer foreigners receives Norwegian citizenship

Last year, a total of 10,300 foreign citizens received Norwegian citizenship. This is less than half as many as the year before, when 21,600 citizenship was granted, Norwegian news agency NTB and the VG.no newspaper reported.

17 per cent of the new citizens in 2018 come from European countries, while 72 per cent come from Asian and African countries, according to figures from Statistics Norway.

Over the past ten years, 136,600 people have become Norwegian citizens, and the figure from last year is below the average, the figures show.

Norway has a population of 5,3 million.

EU countries are strengthening border control when the UK leaves

The EU is increasing its staff for passports control and customs along it’s external borders, when the UK leaves the European Union.

Six of the 28 EU countries are planning a total of 20 border control posts, according to German broadcaster ARD, Norway’s public broadcaster NRK reported.
Germany and The Netherlands will employ a total of 900 new personell at customs and border control.

Tour buses to be banned from Oslo’s city center

The city environment agency in Norway’s capital city Oslo moves to ban tourist buses from Oslo’s city center.
An Oslo guide, Tove Gjersrud despaires, and tells the Finansavisen newspaper that it seems that Norway’s capital does not welcome tourists.

Rising temperatures in Svalbard

March will be the 100th month with temperatures above normal in the Norwegian territory of Svalbard, according to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, the public broadcaster NRK reported.
Although March this year has been relatively cold, the month is likely to add to the high monthly temperatures.

Hagia Sofia, Istanbuls mest kjente landemerke og største turistattraksjon, og som tidligere har vært både katedral og moské, kan igjen bli moské, ifølge Tyrkias president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
I et TV-intervju søndag åpnet han for å endre statusen til det nesten 1.500 år gamle praktbygget, som i dag er et museum, melder NRK.

Hagia Sophia ble bygget som en gresk-ortodoks katedral, og stod ferdig i år 537.

Turistbusser får ikke kjøre i Oslo sentrum

Bymiljøetaten i Oslo kommune vil at turistbussene skal holde seg utenfor Oslo sentrum, melder NRK.
Oslo-guide Tove Gjersrud fortviler og sier til Finansavisen at det virker som om Oslo ikke vil ønske turister velkommen.

100 måneder over normalen på Svalbard

Mars blir den 100. måneden med temperatur over normalen på Svalbard, ifølge Meteorologisk institutt. Det melder NRK.

Selv om mars måned i år har vært forholdsvis kald, vil måneden trolig føye seg inn i rekken av høye månedstemperaturer.
