Turkey opens embassy in Rwanda

Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, today opened the Turkish embassy in Kigali, capital city of Rwanda. The minister raised the Turkish flag at the new embassy, which is located at Kimihurura sector in the Gasabo disitrict, the ktpress.rw website reported.

Rwandan citizens have previously been going to Kampala, capital of Uganda, to obtain visas before travelling to Turkey. 

“Various agreements signed to develop political, economic and cultural relations in Rwanda are a big step made and we look forward to establish more businesses here”, Mr Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said at the opening ceremony.

Rwanda’s Foreign Affairs Minister Louise Mushikiwabo congratulated Turkey upon the step made and promised good bilateral trade.

“We are going to put more effort in our trade not forgetting our coffee which will be often exported in Turkey,” foreign minister Mushikiwabo said.

She went on to say that besides the normal trade between the two countries, Turkey is soon going to invest in Rwanda’s cloths industries, electricity and infrastructures.

Turkish Airlines has been operating in Rwanda since 2012. In 2013, it when Rwanda opened an embassy in Turkey’s capital city Ankara, in a bid to boost its bilateral and economic ties.
