The state airline of Angola, Taag, has resumed regular flights from the capital Luanda bound for Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (RDC), the Prensa Latina News agency reported.

The company will have two weekly flights to this destination - Mondays and Thursdays.

Airline spokesman Carlos Vicente explained that this reboot was completed after the agreements strengthened in January between the two countries, following the visit to Luanda of Congolese President Joseph Kabila.

Company officials said that the agreement opens new horizons in trade, as the disruption of flights to Kinshasa had a negative impact on the economy.

According to Vicente, Taag stopped flying to the Congolese capital five years ago, but now "we have all the technical, operational and business conditions created".

The flight, which will be performed by a new generation Boeing 737-700 aircraft, supports the development of bilateral relations in the airline industry, stressed the spokesman.

Angola and the DRC share a long common border and maintain excellent ties of cooperation in the fields of defense and security, transportation, petroleum, hotels and tourism, agriculture, fisheries, etc.

In addition, both states integrate the Southern African Development Community and the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region.

Founded in 1938 under the name Air Transport Division, Taag currently operates domestic flights within national territory, as well as medium and long-haul flights to Africa, Europe, Brazil and Cuba.
